Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

Because as it is right now it's hard to "move on" in a cage, even in a golden one.

OK, I can watch old episodes of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, NCIS, Stargate etc.
But it would be nice with something new and interesting now and then.
There will inevitably come a time where every franchise dies, or goes on an eternal hiatus. Some perhaps will be reset from scratch and that may satisfy some and for others like myself not others. But it is an industry and nothing lasts forever. Even passion projects eventually get shelved and thrown by the wayside.

It is a sad fact but there always comes a day when the shows, films, novels, comics and games will stop for a series we love or at least a series in the recognisable form that we love.

It surprises me greatly when we live in a world where more content than ever that is created on a yearly basis that anyone can say this. There have been some amazing shows through streaming that have showed up. Try your hand at free trials on these and just look to see what you can find.
It’s a great time to be an anime fan & following the season releases. There’s always something interesting to find throughout the year.

Doesn’t take much effort to stumble onto something good, no matter where you’re looking.

I do not understand the quest to keep things around forever when it comes to entertainment because inevitably things will move on. Even Star Trek espouses this idea that change and time progression are inevitable.

Sometimes you can reach a point where you just aren't able to connect with anything that is entirely standalone anymore and the comfort of some connection albeit tangential is an actual requirement. To know that something is even in the smallest fleeting way connected to that which brings joy and comfort provides it with accessibility and it can turn out that the lack of that renders something entirely inaccessible. The need for connection, the need for a greater tapestry to invest in means isolated standalone stories that are completely inconsequential are just not worth the time and have this barrier for entry.

I'm constantly searching for somethings I find interesting.

But it's harder to find now than it was about 10 years back or so.

It's that doom and gloom scenarios in almost all movie and series I just can't stand.

Yes, and it always creates a deep hole in my soul depending on how much I liked it and how much I will miss it.

personally I do think hat Star Trek is too good to just vanish.

I agree with you on that and a fresh reboot will just not have me in its audience as that is not what I want and I'm okay with just bailing. Yeah it'll be upsetting but there's nothing I'm empowered to do about it, I have decades of content to enjoy, new stories being very very very slowly released by STO still. For now new games are still being set in the prime universe like the very exciting Shadow Frontier. And I have an eternally resolute headcanon that can bind it all together and add more stories to it.

One has to find some way of moving on and for me that's insulating into my headcanon and entrenching myself there. It would be a waste of energy to curse the names of those making a reboot and accusing them of taking my Trek away and it would be unkind to attack others meaninglessly for enjoying content I do not or trying to spoil their fun by attacking a product they like.

That sounds like a Lynx problem. Yeah, there is hard entertainment out there. No doubt. Stuff that makes you think. Stuff that can be a little dark. It’s usually the start of a story that gets light by the end. The Bear on Hulu is one of those shows. Yeah, it is a hard show. Very depressing sometimes. But the love for the craft these characters have chosen to follow and for one another, the feeling of family, pushes through. It’s challenging, absolutely. But it’s also damned good!

But there’s good optimistic shows out there too.

I think you would be doing yourself a disservice by not sampling it. Much like I would’ve done myself a massive disservice by not sampling Lower Decks and Prodigy.

Possibly. But I also know in my heart I am dead set against a reboot and it would be doing it a disservice not to be approached with an open mind. Cautious curiosity can yield a rewarding surprise. But if I were to sample a Star Trek reboot I'm not sure I would be able to lift the lens of disappointment and bitterness and therefore my reception of it would be unfairly coloured.

It is better to not engage altogether than to engage without an open mind.

All I can say is that I didn’t have an open mind towards animated Trek. I thought it was a huge mistake.

Sometimes, I have to push myself beyond my comfort zone. Or else I’d still be the rather poor person I was thirty years ago. As in all things, mileage will vary.

I approached Lower Decks, SNW and Academy with reservations. I don't like Rick and Morty, I don't feel an engagement with TOS, I can't stand teenagers. But I was open to give them a try as they were part of my beloved Star Trek and the three of them instantly carved out special places in my heart. As I said for me cautious curiosity has worked out well but I'm a stubborn fool and I don't change my mind easily so if I go into something dead set against it then it's a recipe for failure.

Fair enough.
