We're literally getting that in January.

Maybe. I hope so. We are getting legacy characters though, at least in the pilot.

I expect those legacy characters to have more screen time than Deforest Kelly did in Farpoint.

As long as Trek continues looking backward, then yes, it should be put to rest. I long for the next Next Generation.

Would that not be the new space cadet show they're releasing next year? Literally the next generation, and set at the very end of the timeline.

Except The Doctor is one of the leads. So even ACADEMY, set in the 32nd century, past any other episode in the previous era, STILL couldn't resist going backward and bring in a legacy character.

Every time something potentially new is offered fans immediately demand familiar characters. There's zero incentive by studios because familiar makes money.

Stop watching those with legacy characters.

On the one hand, I can't recall anything new being offered, but I don't read all the news.

On the other hand, I'm not saying you're off base. I can understand your pov.

If they did put it on ice and revived it a long time later, it might not have enough of resonance with a younger generation to cash in on nostalgia or anything else to get people to watch it when they didn't relate to it the first time around, and then it would have to survive on its own merits which is often disastrous. (witness Doc Savage: Man of Bronze, John Carter, The Lone Ranger, The Shadow, etc)

All of which I absolutely love.
