Kirk was not always this intensive energy, but someone who put in a measure of thought, or pause, and something that comes across as boring.
The guy ... paused ... a little too ... often.

My kids even noted that. But damn has he grown on us.You’re not wrong about that!

Well... Most of the time.but I do like that he's not just imitating Shatner
we're not like gazelles..People were complaining they talked too much in S1 (And they want a President Archer show?)
Nothing short of President Archer jumping into a starfighter and kicking alien boo-tay a la Independence Day is going to impress anyone.

Well... Most of the time.
And his latest go gave me total Shatner vibes. Best ever. Without doing... The... SHATNER... things.
I think STAR TREK should have been put to rest after "Enterprise". Aside from Season One of "Discovery", I haven't been impressed by the franchise's productions.
I found watching Picard overall was enjoyable.I actually thought season 5 of Discovery was good and I really enjoyed season 3 of Picard which felt like a natural extension of the Berman shows. Interesting about season 1 of Discovery. i actually thought that was it's worst.
But with the occasional episode here or there.....Yeah like you I haven't been impressed with much of the Kurtzman produced stuff either.

My only problem with him is that I watched way too much Vampire Diaries.
I think some of older Trek tried to hard to be Shakespeare, ignoring the idea from TOS to tell stories about people that could be relatable. And ignoring that Shakespeare's plays stood out because the average citizens didn't speak like that and it made the dialog feel very sweeping.for me, both Picard's and Discovery's last seasons were their best
while I think New Trek goes go overboard with emotionality and therapy speak, I do feel Old Trek was too stiff with this stuff sometimes

Well yeah. TNG was caught between time periods I guess. They had a bigger ensemble cast as opposed to shows from the 60's and the characters got more to do. But they still were in a period of little character development. They basically started anew each episode and the previous episodes events didn't really figure into things so much. Not to say they were never brought up again. Just not very often. DS9 of course was one of the first shows with an overall arch for the season and character development was a bit better. Voyager as well. Enterprise didn't really get a chance to show to much of that and kinda was a backward step. Outright ignoring Mayweather.
And then yes .... sometimes the new shows go overboard.
It's a hard balance indeed.

I didn't finish it either. But I watched enough of it that I struggle with him as Kirk. He would have been better off as an entirely new character.I think he's more Kirkish in Vampire diaries.......never did finish that show.....
It basically was. The next onscreen content after Enterprise ended was Trek XI which was released close to four years exactly after Enterprise's finale aired, while there would be no new Trek TV content for a dozen years after Enterprise ended.I think STAR TREK should have been put to rest after "Enterprise".

I for one cosign what RedLetterMedia's Mike once remarked about pre-Abrams Trek: "Star Trek used to have its head up its ass... but that's what we fans liked about it."
I suppose there are exceptions to every rule because I did not care for that aspect. The insistence by TNG fans that I must accept it was even more annoying.I for one cosign what RedLetterMedia's Mike once remarked about pre-Abrams Trek: "Star Trek used to have its head up its ass... but that's what we fans liked about it."
And that Shakespeare always represented high culture.where they thought pop culture ended at Shakespeare haha
4 years is not a long time doesn't matter if they moved to film for a bit. There was maybe 2 years without anything in production. The 2009 film began production late 2009. There has almost been something live action on the Horizon After TMP. Trek needed at least 10 years of NOTHING. Give it a true break. But we really haven't seen it. Plus I would rather have ONE great show with 20-25 episodes each year instead of 2 mediocre live shows and 2 cartoons. I don't want to follow 4 storylines of Trek every year. Less is more sometimes. Sadly so many franchises go this route and it just further dilutes things. You would think they would have learned their lesson when they ran two 24 episode shows at the same time during the Berman era.It basically was. We're never getting that many episodes in one season of Star Trek again. Probably best to accept that now.Plus I would rather have ONE great show with 20-25 episodes each year
