Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

All I care about is what I see on the screen. All the behind-the-scenes stuff or whatever goes on online, unless something criminal happened or happens, it has no bearing on how I judge the final product. I don't care about who did what or who said what. Those are all external factors.

So, whatever comes out, I'll judge how I like or dislike it based on what I saw. If it speaks to me, I'll continue watching it. If it doesn't then, unlike many, I don't believe in hate-watching. Simple as that.

As far as the concept, I've learned over time that the execution matters a lot more than the concept. "It should be this!" "It should be that!" If I like it, if I don't feel like I'm being written down to, and I'm excited to see more, then that's what I'm for.

If everyone else loves it, that's great. If everyone else hates it, then sorry for them.

You can't really go by what everyone says on TrekBBS. If you do that, then nothing would ever get made. No matter what, there'd always be someone who says "No."

Build a new franchise if you want, why bother restricting yourself to existing characters and species if not to build on the thousand episodes of previous storytelling.

Seth MacFarlane did it brilliantly.

well yeah look at the orville lol

its like in a way a new timeline in the star trek multiverse

I'd only want him back if he were in charge of The Franchise. If he were the one calling the shots and he was one with the final say, I'd be all for it. Because then everyone would have to do things his way, not the other way around. I'd love for him to make Star Trek that's of FAMK-level quality and insist those working for him rise to that level.

If he were back in a lesser position, then it would be a massive stepdown for him, and he'd have to bend to too many whims. I wouldn't be for that.

To Clarify: Not too long ago, I wouldn't have been for him returning because I prefer him to stay on For All Mankind. But now that it's been confirmed that the sixth season of FAMK will be the last, my position has shifted (but only if he's at the very top). Regardless, I'm looking forward to whatever he does next. Star City included.

And no one can accuse Ron Moore of playing it safe. He's known for a lot of things, but not that.

I'd love to see Ira Steven Behr get another bite at the franchise apple, but at his age and with now 27 years having elapsed since his last Trek show ceased production I doubt he'd do it even if they asked him. Behr's stubborn independent streak and fighting back against some of Berman's and Paramount's qualms over DS9's content kept that show as good as it was.

I hate to agree to a completely fresh take if they’re going to replace Kurtzman. No Braga, no Moore, no Sussman, no Behr, no Fuller, no Paradise, no Chabon, no Matalas, no McMahon, no Hageman brothers, no Goldman or Myers, no Landau.

There has to be a creator out there who hasn’t had their hands on Trek who could do amazing work on it. And I don’t know that I would want someone with previous nerd cred. That leads to expectations that are often not met. Let Paramount actually find someone new with fresh ideas.

Section 31 as originally seen in DS9 were certainly not the heroes. Shady admirals doing things, from Pressman to Dougherty, were not the heroes, even if you considered they may have had a point.

Trek is about the ideal prevaling, despite the challenges.

Lower decks lighting and cinematography is very much different.

Picard was three completely separate shows over barely more airtime than tng season 1.

Discovery changed wildly each season, compare seasons 1, 3 and 5

SNW was more consistent internally

Now sure, the business, the darkness, the smudgy filters, the lack of carpet, all of that was the same across the live action, but there was far too many differences.

Using modern slang is “meh” to me, sure you could make something new like “frack” or “sway”. I just assume I’m watching with the benefit of a universal translator, it’s unrealistic that English in the 31st century will be recognisable at all today. How many modern people speak like even modern translations of Shakespere, and that’s was far closer in time.

I wasn't talking about Section 31 on DS9, but the streaming movie "Star Trek: Section 31"... and mirror Georgiou on DSC.

I don't know ... I like about half of Kurtzman era Trek ... that's only a slightly lower ratio than the share of Berman Trek I liked.
