Is it Rona Munro then?

Who's the classic series writer who'll pen an episode for Series 10. Lots of people on Twitter saying this is the case, not sure it's been formally announced anywhere yet though.

She kind of fits-people vanishing mysteriously in London suburbia, cat people, the Master being somewhat more crazy than usual, a companion with a complicated backstory....

After all, Moffat has continuously argued how Survival has all the hallmarks of a NuWho episode, and feels like, too. Honestly, I don't quite disagree with that statement myself - doesn't mean its a great one, obviously...

Looked back from today's perspective "Survival" was astonishingly ahead of it's time both in acknowledging the existence of a world beyond cosy middle-class England and prioritising character over plot.

The full list of writers seems to be:

Steven Moffat
Frank Cottrell-Boyce
Sarah Dollard
Mike Bartlett
Jamie Mathieson
Peter Harness
Mark Gatiss
Toby Whithouse
Rona Munro

I think Moffat's doing 4, so it is probably back to just all single parters again.

For what it's worth, this will be both the longest gap between first and second scripts, and the longest between first and 'last'...

Moffat to do four then everyone else just does the one? Unless Moffat trims back how many he's doing and someone else does a couple?

Most of those people have either written at least some good Who scripts before or just haven't written for Who before. I think the only outlier at the moment is Cottrell-Boyce who did Forest of the Bleedin Night but there have been plenty of Who writers whose first ep was shit and their next one quite good (I mean Harness gave us Kill the Moon but his Zygon 2 parter had some merit, at least the second part).

I didn't watch it but Bartlett got rave reviews for Dr Foster (though being good at writing other drama doesn't always equate to writing good Who)

Whithouse and Mathieson have a good Who hit ratio, and after Face the Raven I'm eager to see what Dollard does next. Gatiss, well it might be great or it might be rubbish we'll just have to wait and see!

Nice to see two female writers again. What odds on Munro doing a Missy episode?
