Is a homecoming dance just a USA kind of thing?

Yep. I also remember homecoming week. The theme days and the like. Those were more fun. Only ended up going to prom, myself with a friend one year.

Best part of homecoming one year was seeing a group of teachers (both men and women) having to dress up as cheerleaders. It was their way of breaking the newbies in.

I'll never forget it :p.

That depends....... With some of the teachers we had in high school if they dressed like that the boys would have gone nuts.

Ah. Well it was the guys in the skirts for the most part. One year we had Olga, and another year with another newbie, we had his cousin, Helga.

It was a goofy little joke.

Somehow that reminds me... One time for a sophomore world history presentation project, one of the groups in my class had a guy in their team dress up in his girlfriend's tiny little skirt and also cake his face with makeup to illustrate the story of an ancient Roman emperor.

The teacher was livid.

My wife (a high school econ teacher) would probably laugh her butt off!

What is a homecoming dance and why do you guys do that?

Intellectually I understand what it is, but I can't say I fully understand why it's done. I can't say I ever attended one myself, not being a fan of football or dances. I honestly don't get the appeal at all, and I've lived in the US all my life.
