It's a cute little gimmick/toy/gadget, in my mind.
Agreed, that's what it is. Problem with that is though, its priced too high to be one.

That's cool.I still haven't QUITE figured out what I'd use it for that my netbook and phone can't handle (with a real keyboard on the former), so I'll pass for now.![]()
Not trying to pick on you, I've just seen this sentiment from several people and I wanted to address it.
I don't think it's a matter of the iPad doing something that other devices can't. For me, I like the functions it offers in this particular form. For example, having a real keyboard isn't important to me. I like that it's just one simple device that I could prop up on my knees while watching TV or something. I like that it's got a bigger screen than my iPod Touch without the bulk of a laptop.
I think a lot of it is a personal choice. I don't like having too many devices. I have a laptop that's really more of a desktop because I like to game. I don't want a netbook to take to class or anything like that though I've considered it in the past. I think an iPad would fit some of the gaps I have. I don't think it's that way for everyone, but obviously there's a market for it.
The information addict in me requires that I get a smartphone, so I can read the news or google stuff wherever I am. It's non-negotiable![]()
So, every year we're going to get a new Ipad/pod/phone. I can't stand that shit. As soon as you buy one, another comes out, it's rediculous. I'm just glad sony gave us some time bertween playstations.

Apple is always breaking ground in a spectacular way but the competitors are always catching up and almost always surpass the initial Apple product in everything save design (which is a matter of taste i think).
No, I didn't just now notice it, I just get increasingly more irritated the more frequent it is. They should just wait if they have more stuff to add. Don't release it untill your absolutely ready. I understand what they are doing and why, I just think it's an asshole thing to do.So, every year we're going to get a new Ipad/pod/phone. I can't stand that shit. You've just noticed this now? Apple refreshes their products like clockwork.
Leaving Apple aside for the moment, there's a tremendous amount of innovation going on in mobile tech right now and the CPUs that power these devices are improving at a frenetic pace. It's pretty amazing to watch the industry develop. Apple's, um, interesting viewpoint of their competitors aside (the quote Jobs gave from Samsung was completely incorrect) the consumer tablet market is going to explode with real competition this year. Early adopters always loose out, but innovation and competition is always good for us consumers.
About the only things Apple is leading is amount of apps and design. Already major competitors are closing the technological gaps fast (and by some early reports are going to surpass the iPad)
