iPad 2 Revealed

Go to their refurbished section and you can get the 16GB for $350 and the 32GB for $430. Comes with the same 1 year warranty.

So, every year we're going to get a new Ipad/pod/phone. I can't stand that shit. As soon as you buy one, another comes out, it's rediculous. I'm just glad sony gave us some time bertween playstations.

You've just noticed this now? Apple refreshes their products like clockwork.

Leaving Apple aside for the moment, there's a tremendous amount of innovation going on in mobile tech right now and the CPUs that power these devices are improving at a frenetic pace. It's pretty amazing to watch the industry develop. Apple's, um, interesting viewpoint of their competitors aside (the quote Jobs gave from Samsung was completely incorrect) the consumer tablet market is going to explode with real competition this year. Early adopters always loose out, but innovation and competition is always good for us consumers.

Indeed. As much as I am a technophile, my wallet is not, and so I have to wait much longer for something to come along. I want an iPad, so I'd be much more likely to buy a 1st Generation. Of course, with how long it takes me to do so, iPad might be on it's 3rd or 4th. :p

There is nothing wrong with that. Just because Apple or any other company comes out with a refresh of a product, doesn't mean you have to purchase it.

I started with the iPhone 2G, skipped the iPhone 3. Purchased the iPhone 3Gs and was set to skip the iPhone 4 but the changes made iPhone 4 to disariable. So we got the iPhone 4 and we are really glad we did. Now we're suppose to skip the iPhone 5, which we will do even if they come out with LTE. Unless it offers something significantly more then the iPhone 4 we will hold our ground.

I have the iPad 01, incredible thing in fact posting this comment on it right now. As much as I love the iPad 2, we will not upgrade to the iPad 2. The iPad 2 offers a few things I really need, like video mirroring and I like the fact that it face times. We use FaceTime often because my wife works a lot of hours and we both travel a lot for business so it is truly the only way we get to see our children sometimes. Being able to see my two year old son and say good night to him before he goes to bed is important. Having the iPhone 4 works great for that and while I would love to see them on the big screen of the iPad, it's not a necessity at this time.

So don't feel put upon to upgrade with each release.

Apple's website is selling refurbished 1st generation iPads for relatively little. If I didn't have a netbook, I'd be tempted to get one.

Maybe once my netbook is obsolete or getting too old (2 years or so from now) I might get a tablet of some kind. I think it'd be best to wait because this year, a lot of competitors will come out. Hopefully that means more innovation and lower prices.

Not a chance.

I mean, there may well be new innovations. There will be some cool stuff for sure. But everyone else is struggling to simply match Apple's prices. Forget about beating them. It's just not going to happen.

It will happen. It always happens. No one stays on top for too long before the next King of the Mountain makes their claim.

About the only things Apple is leading is amount of apps and design. Already major competitors are closing the technological gaps fast (and by some early reports are going to surpass the iPad)

It's not always about having the best specs. It doesn't matter how powerful a device is, if the user experience is lacking. For the most part, the iPhone and iPad do what i need/want them to do, at a price point that I find acceptable. Plus I've probably dropped at least 300 bones on apps and games, so there is another incentive to stay in the Apple ecosystem.

I'm not necessarily talking about raw power but little things people got used to with Laptops and desktops which are plug in ports for USB sticks, memory sticks etc.. basically to have the ability of a Laptop with the lightweight and touchscreen ability of a tablet yet Apple omits these because their philosophy is going in a different direction and they intentionally cut out these small but for some really important features.

If Apple works for your needs fine.. the iPad is a fantastic device and the iPhone too but i still don't like Apple's philosophy to force me to go a certain way and not give me options to choose.. it's either their way or not at all it seems.

This is where the competitors come in. It will take them quite a while to catch up because Apple hit the ground running with a very good product that's built a huge hype and customer base but when they do i expect their devices to be at least a match for the iPad if not surpassing them in price and adaptability though when that will happen is anybody's guess. All the other companies seemed really surprised about the success and demand of the iPad and are now rushing into development and production and it shows.

So i'll wait a while (1-2 years maybe) until the tech matures a bit and the kinks are out before deciding if i really need it (would be cool to surf the web from my comfortable couch).

Apple has done this before. When the iMac arrived without a floppy drive, everyone complained about that, but Apple turned out to be right. Maybe they will be again, only time will tell.

The floppy was from the 70s. USB has only been around since 1996.

Considering they're also trying to push Thunderbolt as the new medium I think ports are gonna be around for a while.

Thinking everyone is gonna go wireless is a little premature.

I'm a regular Apple user for the past eight years or so. My first computer was an Indigo G3 500Mhz iMac. My current is a five year old 1.42GhZ eMac. I actually would like a new 21.5" iMac and I could afford it, but...my current machine works flawlessly and I can't really justify a new one. If I had money to throw around then...maybe. But as is I can get by even if I can't upgrade to Snow Leopard or the forthcoming Lion.

I also have a three year old iPod Nano that works without a fuss. I actually kinda liked the just discontinued Nano, but my current one fits in my pocket better. The current Nano is something of a tech marvel except that it's too damned small for my liking. With the control wheel I could operate it in the dark or in my pocket by feel. Current Nano you have to look at it to use the touch/swipe screen. Bah!

I think the iPad is interesting, but it's not for me. This is early goings and the leading edge of this kind of device. It'll get better and cheaper---tech always does. That said I also don't have a notebook or netbook. I don't need that kind of portability and on a computer I like a larger screen which a laptop certainly doesn't give you.

I don't own an iPhone and don't plan to because I don't need that kind of accessibility and function, but that's just me. I don't need access to videos and internet and whatever 24/7. I can wait until I get home. I do have a cel phone---a simple little Koodo Samsung---which I barely use, but it's there if I need it and it doesn't cost me much.

It really is up to the individual to decide what you need and/or want. No one is twisting your arm.

Reading this thread I couldn't help but think of the cool Futurama episode "Revenge Of The Killer App." It really summed in a hilarious way how many people buy into chasing the latest thing almost by reflex. Or not. You don't have to follow the crowd.

I'd much rather buy this:

http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-duo/pd

Functionality wise I hear it's got a little way to go but design wise it blows Apple out of the water.

Imagine if that was an OS X device... in laptop mode you have Snow leopard but in tablet mode it becomes iOS 4.

Now THAT would be cool...

It might be cool, but what would be the compelling reason to buy it instead of an existing product? I fear it may an also-ran when all is said and done.

Thinner. Lighter. Faster. More expensive than before. Less in your hands and in your wallet.

You know, I think we all appreciate the attempt at iPad humor, but it's factually inaccurate.

The iPad 2 is not more expensive than before. It's the same price.

Reading this thread I feel like the only person who regularly has a laptop on her lap!
