I had a boring day at work last week so i randomely re-read this book after years and years and its actually quite good, far better then the script of the game. I think it was written by Diane Carey,i left the book at work like a plank. Anyone else rerember reading this ?

I thought it was good, too. I especially liked the different take on the Kobayashi Maru (so much so that I was disappointed at how straight-forward it was in the actual game).

It does kind of end at an odd place. I'd assume that part of the deal was that Carey couldn't novelize any actual gameplay, so there's no pay-off to the Meclanti story with Forester getting to borrow the Enterprise to try and contact the alien.

Yeh i guessed it was a prequal with certian plot elements from the game encorporated from the game

I thought I remembered an audiobook of this title, with the voices of George Takei and Walter Koenig, but I can't find any mention of it. I must be thinking of something else...

I got this from eBay a few months ago. It was enjoyable. I was on an academy roll and also enjoyed The Best and Brightest and Collision Course. I just wish some of these new cadet characters would show up again as officers!

Sulu and Chekov hanging out at the academy while Excelsior was prepared was reminiscent of Pike and Spock doing the same in STXI while Enterprise was being readied.

There was no audio adaptation, just the novelization. Takei and Koenig (and Shatner?) lent their voices and faces to the game itself.

"Star Trek Klingon" had a novelization and an audio."Star Trek Borg" had audio only. "Starfleet Academy" had a novelization only. "Klingon Academy" got nothing.
