Interplay Fallout MMO

Ok i'm probably well behind the times but i've just read that Bethesda only bought the rights to single player Fallout games and that Interplay retained the right to develop a Fallout MMO.

Now I absolutely love Fallout3 by Bethesda and would hope that all future Fallout maintains the same type of visuals, gameplay and features (I love all of Bethedas games and how they create them) but the problem is that there's no way that the Fallout MMO by Interplay will be anything like what Bethesda has designed so in the MMO the mutants will look different for example and it will just completely feel alien to what Fallout has evolved into by Bethesda.

I want a Fallout MMO but I don't want it being developed by someone other than Bethesda now. I know Interplay are the ones who created Fallout but I think it's time to pass on the torch completely.

Interesting. A Fallout MMO would be very cool, but I wouldn't be to upset if it didn't visually look like Fallout 3. They are different animals. I doubt a MMO would ever be able to capture all of the details of the game Bethedas created, and trying to copy them and falling short would just be fodder for complainers and critics. I would much rather they set any MMO in a different part of North America with it's own visual style.

As long as they don't mess up the world and setting that they currently have going I would be happy.

Of course I don't play MMO's anyways, but a Fallout one would be really tempting.

I imagine if a Fallout MMO were to be made, it would be done so by Bethesda. While Interplay may hold the rights, its a dying company and I would bet good money that within a few years, Bethesda will hold all the rights to fallout

The MMO is already in development by Interplay, they've already opened a new studio specifically for it's development in orange county California.
When Interplay sold Fallout to Bethesda there was a clause in the contract stating that Interplay had so long from the sign over to develop and ship an MMOG or the full rights to the MMOG would be given to Bethesda, Interplay appears to be still within that time limit.

That being said, Bethesda has recently hired some people who's expertise is MMOG creation and development so there's rumour that Bethesda will be making an MMOG.

Even though I spent 80 hours on Fallout 3, a Bethesda MMO will end up being the driest, dullest thing possible. They just can't tell an engaging story... the only hook is the exploration, but I wouldn't pay 15 bucks a month for that pleasure.

Considering the fundamental differences between a single player RPG and an MMO, I don't think you can necessarily make that determination.

Fair enough, but if they end up using the same design philosophy deployed in Oblivion and FO3 in an MMO?
It'd take an entirely independent team to probably do something that doesn't fall into that category.
