In Russian they pronounce Picard as Picar. They don't pronounce the D at the end. I seen a few trailers and irritates the hell out of me every time. Maybe if in original french or english they never pronounced the D, it would be fine. But the D is written, they definitely pronounce it, but when translating it, they decide to drop it? Wtf?
So when dubbed to French they don’t pronounce D? And never did? Mind blown... but but but... it’s an American show with British actor... where they do Pronounce the D...The correct French pronunciation of "Picard" is "Picar" tho. You drop the D at the end.![]()

the "Sean-Luke" never really bothered me that much, at least it sounds like they tried and the English language doesn't really have an Ü-sound. But the D in Picard...that's just lazyLet's just say it's better to not even THINK about the fact that Jean-Luc can't pronounce his own name correctly. (Neither the first name nor the last name.)![]()

Bugs the hell out of me, that the D is pronounced in the English version.

Kirk and Riker remain AmericansWow, after being a Trekkie for 30+ years you still learn something new once in a while... Wait.. So can we call Kirk.. Kir... or Riker.. Rikah?
Aren't both of them Canadian? Well, Alaskan and Canadian.. Close enoughKir and Riker remain Americans
Kirk is from Iowa, the actor is Canadian (and his French is worse than Stewart's)Aren't both of them Canadian? Well, Alaskan and Canadian.. Close enoughAnd in Canada they speak French.. see what I did there

They do not. It was bracing when I first heard it, but then I realized I was incorrect. So when dubbed to French they don’t pronounce D? And never did? Mind blown... but but but... it’s an American show with British actor... where they do Pronounce the D...
I don't necessarily mind when they just call out his name, but there are obviously spots when he is introduced as "Jean-Luc Picard," with the actor using a French accent, that retains the 'd' when it should not.I do wish they had consulted a native speaker of the French language when they came up with Jean-Luc's name tho. I mean they bothered to try out Sir Patrick with a French accent, so it's kinda baffling to me that they never seem to have even thought about the correct pronunciation of Jean-Luc's name.
