Interesting Nemesis copy...

I recently saw a boot-legged copy of Star Trek Nemesis and I was surprised a bit by what was apparently included in the theatrical release, at least this one. I noticed that in the beginning the wedding scene was a bit longer. At one point Picard noted that Dr. Crusher was leaving the Enterprise to go to Starfleet medical on earth during his speech to the Rikers. There was talk about Picard tearing up, then there was the childish and very lame Wesley Crusher cameo that really wasted 30 seconds of my life. For me the bigger surprise was an actual, albeit short, quib about Worf not enjoying the duites of a diplomat and how Crusher was glad to have seen him before she leaves. So I guess his reason for being there was explained...slightly. There was also a very short scene extension where the Rikers stop dancing, because Will wants to join the band to play. The Data/Picard scene about new worlds was there which was really awesome to see. The next scene of note was when the crew met in the observation lounge to discuss going to Romulous. After the meeting, Worf pulls Picard aside to basically say I recommend extreme caution and the Romulans are without honour.

The Ten-Forward scene where Data brings in an up and operational B-4 with the Rikers and Worf looking on was there which I actually found as touching. I saw this one on YouTube already so that was no big surprise. The next scene was a big surprise. There was a scene where Deanna talks to Picard about her concerns with Data's reaction to B-4. There was a scene where Riker mentioned how the Remans were in the Dominion War which was a big surprise to me. The next scene of note was when they meet Shinzon. There was slightly more dialogue between Shinzon and Worf having to do with the both of them being warriors. Then there's talk about the Scimitar's weapons that I don't recall seeing on the DVD, but I could be wrong there. There was a funny scene in which Shinzon's existance as a clone was explained where they think the Romulans must have gotten a skin cell sample instead of his hair.

Next there's the deleted scene that I think we've all seen where Deanna and Picard are talking while walking about Shinzon's motives and thoughts. There's a slight scene extension with Picard and Crusher talking about Shinzon. The next scene of note is the deleted scene where Deanna is mind raped in the elevator. There's a little scene extension with Picard and Shinzon when Picard is beamed away. Just more talk about his motives and threats. The next scene of note is the scene where Picard and Crusher talk right after Picard has ordered red alert, battle stations. There's just more dialogue, but nothing overly important. The next scene of note, was right after B-4 and Picard talk, there's a scene where Worf and LaForge are clearing out Data's quarters, and Data's cat spot, jumps into Worf's arms after Worf says he's not a cat person or some such. Then Picard is in his ready room and he's speaking to Dr. Crusher and she wants him to come to the officer's mess to enjoy the band, but he says he can't...then Riker and Picard say their goodbyes. Then is the deleted scene where Riker speaks to Madden and pulls a joke on him, Picard sits in his new chair...blah, blah, blah...end..roll credits.

It didn't make the movie significantly better and the sound sucked cuz it was being recorded in a movie theater, but I thought I'd tell you all about it.

None of that is in the theatrical version I saw here in Cincinnati. Nor in any of the home video releases.

Possible it's from a pre-release screening. Might want to hang onto it.

Defo not a released cut which was then copied. So either a fancut, where someone edited the deleted scenes back in. There's even a deleted scene somewhere on youtube where someone went through the effort of adding SFX to the scene, making it complete.

Or, like BillJ said, a pre-release screening, which could be pretty nifty to collecters one day.

If this is legitimate then it can't be a fan edit: the cut dialog re Worf's return hasn't been in any of the previously released deleted scenes.

I've never heard of a workprint version of the film (which is what this would be) in circulation, and the only info a google search brings is a website where it is mentioned in a list of "rumoured releases".

FWIW though, the scene where Riker talks about the Remans fighting in the Dominion War was in the final film as well.

I would be interested in learning more about this, can the OP tell us where/how he saw this copy of the film?

It definitely wasn't a fan-cut. It was movie theater. As a matter of fact, some guy's afro with a pick in his hair got into the shot a few times. The funny thing is, and maybe it's just me or wishful thinking, but I recall some of those scenes in the movie like the elevator rape and the scene where LaForge and Worf were in Data's quarters. Maybe it's just me.

I'd love to see that myself. One thing I noticed in the original theatrical trailer for the film, it does have a few segments not featured in the original cut of the movie.

Are any of those in the cut you saw?

Ya know, NEM had great trailers. Dark, moody. I remember getting pretty excited. It's a shame that the final product was so underwhelming.

One of the things that always annoyed me was the fact that Worf was back on the Enterprise, and not a word of explanation. This explanation here would have been a little lame, but better than nothing!

Oh, and in case you're wondering, that is not my worst complaint about NEM. But the devil is in the details, isn't he? :p

Definitely agreed on that one. Two seconds of dialogue could have solved it too.

"I'm glad you decided to return to active duty Mr Worf."
"I was not a good.... Ambassador" would do it.

Or they could've tried to inject some fresh blood. Modern Trek's biggest flaw was they never, ever took a chance. They had a formula and stuck with it no matter how tired it was.

Yes they were in what I saw. I don't know, I was somewhat surprised myself in the little extras that I saw, the most of which being a small line from Worf saying how he wasn't cut out to be a diplomat.

That, too. But if you're going to play it safe, for the love of the old gods and the new, please make it seem at least marginally plausible. A lame explanation is better than everyone going wtf.

Eh, I thought it was pretty funny that this time around they didn't even bother to try giving us even a half-baked explanation.

It's only funny if you don't want to get worked up over it....at least that's the way I see it. Would it have killed them to spend two seconds being logical? The film is a right mess as it is! I felt so cheated at the cinema.

But you're right, better to laugh at it than the alternative, i.e. getting all nerd-enraged like I do. :p

Truth be told, I think Nemesis is getting a little bit of a bad rap to a small degree. I certainly thought it was better than most people say it is. I do agree that a little more time should have been spent on tightening up certain areas in the movie. I never liked the clone idea, but they should have, in my humble opinion, made it make more sense. That's where Sela should have been used. In spite of her acting chops, she could have had a very limited role in the movie, but I think the small things like that would have made it seem more plausible. I got my hands on a different script for Nemesis compared to what the shooting script was, and it seemed quite interesting. In this script, Admiral Janeway had a larger role in the movie. I've got a new thread that I'm going to start with a new question about Nemesis that I'll post shortly....

Thing is, they were probably expecting more people that would see the movie wouldn't have seen DS9, then did see it, therefore, an explanation would cause a bigger WTF.

Joe Average Moviegoer: "Ambassador? WTF....where did that come from"?

He was at the wedding... and traveling with them to the other wedding. What more explanation is necessary? I don't get why people get all worked up about shit that seriously doesn't matter about these movies.
