Interesting Facts About You That Few People Know About

It's OK to kill Starlings because they are not native to this country and they evict other, native birds from their nests. They are aggresive. I mean you know what I mean when I say OK..I don't like it but it's not illegal. Any native species.... it is illegal to kill them. You are not allowed...not even for food. I'm just glad that I've never been that poor...and nor will I ever be....that I have to go out in my backyard a shoot a squirrel to eat. I consider shooting squirrels and rabbits for food to be a last resort. I know that's a reality for some people but I am vehemently agains (may have spelled that wrong) any killing for target practice.

Oh, so am I. I just wanted to point out that killing birds doesn't always equal target practice.

Me, I've only shot a little bit and I've always used, you know, targets for target practice.

I can understand that, and I know it happens. All I can say is that I've known people who ate birds - and squirrels - - and rabbits - not because they were bloodthirsty but because they wanted to have enough to eat. Deer season and wild turkey season only last so long.

One of my memories of early childhood is eating rabbit stew because one of our next door neighbours hunted them.

If you hunt you should be forced to do it with a knife like John Locke on LOST. Otherwise, you're just butchering, not hunting.

^ And why would he shoot birds? For what purpose...? Merely target practice? That's really fucked up and I don't like it! What birds was he killing.....which ones? I don't care if it was house sparrows...now you've gone and gotten me upset.

I don't know what species of birds. It was ages ago. Would it make a difference if I said "fish" instead of birds?

I also want to go to Yankee Stadium, of course. I've been to Fenway Park, though.

Ooh! I trip to Yankee Stadium sounds like fun! Let's go.

I've been there. It's a wonderful, totally awesome stadium. And I'd say that even if I wasn't a Yankees fan. They really went all-out when they built it. There's Yankee history in every inch of the place. It's a worthy successor to the original stadium (which I also have been to, many times). And the food...my God, you wouldn't believe the food. The concourses are huge...it even has a food court!*

When you go there, make sure you sit in the right field bleachers. Sections 202 and 203. Then you can be part of this. ;)

If you want to see Monument Park (which I also highly recommend), get there EARLY. The line forms real quick.

*In an episode of Cathedrals of the Game (the one about Fenway Park), one of the Fenway groundskeepers takes great pride in pointing out how old Fenway is. Nothing wrong with that, of course. I've been to Fenway, and I thought it was really cool, I had a great time there, it's got a century of history behind it, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. It kind of pissed me off, though, when the guy said that (in response to claims that Fenway is old and cramped and kind of outdated) people don't come to games to be comfortable, or to eat a lot. Which is of course, total bullshit. There's no pride in being uncomfortable. This is baseball, not Outward Bound. And as for the food - the 'chowdah' at Fenway is great, and so are the hotdogs, but in general, the MORE food there is at the ballpark, the better!

Good Point! I fish all the time. But I catch and release. I'm just pointing out that it is now illegal to kill native birds. And did he shoot them for target practice or for food? It's disturbing (to me) to kill something for fun or for target practice...but that's just me.

Let's see interesting stuff...

-When I was a child, I went fishing and literally "caught" myself.

I was fishing in this pond, and me and my brother were above on a hill. I cast my line down to the pond, and when I tried to reel it back in, it got caught on some of the bushes on the steep of the hill. As I try to yank it back up with all of my power, I succeed but at a terrible cost. :) The hook comes all the way back and hooks me right in the cheek. I don't remember it hurting, but it did scare the crap out of me. That and the fact that I probably wasn't older than five or six meant that I was balling my eyes out. Luckily my father was there to pull the hook out. Now that's a fish tale!

-I use to play in an indie rock band for a while. Nothing famous or anything, just local stuff, but it was a lot of fun.

-I'm a damn fine teacher if I don't say so myself...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I get to have surgery Friday to get my gallbladdder removed. Fun times!

That it did. I have only just recently seen it; for a long time the extent of the footage I'd watched was the TV trailer, which included a touching slo-mo of my sister and I running into our mom's waiting arms.
As a kid it was quite easy to accept that my mom was a multiple. There were other people living inside her that would sometimes come out and play/talk/whatever with us, and that was just how it was. They had different voices and likes and dislikes, some of them couldn't see without strong glasses, others couldn't see with the glasses on, and so on. It's only now that I think back and realize how odd it really was, especially as all but one of the alters has integrated and I can see bits of all the others in her now. She is not the same people she was when I was a kid.

Wow, that's fascinating. I think I remember watching that back in the early 90's. Was it one of the American Undercover series of HBO docs.?
Yep, that was the one. Every once in a while it strikes me as to just how odd my childhood really was -- my mom's MPD was just one of many unusual things about my family.

As for other interesting things (though I don't know how interesting they really are): I've had about 20 surgeries to restore hearing, all before the age of twelve -- most people don't know that I couldn't hear and communicated in ASL until the age of four; I was also lost at see once, when I was five, though I'm pretty sure I've shared that story here before; I can copy photographs exactly with pencil or pen and ink, so that they can be laid atop the original and appear to have been traced; and I can list the US states in alphabetical order in 25 seconds or less!

that's because you're all kinds of awesome.

I won a drawing contest when I was seven and my prize was a set of towels embroidered with teddy bears. I still use those towels at the age of 24!

Easy to say if you've got plenty to eat. Just sayin'...

But we were talking about sport hunting, no? Hunting for food is a whole different thing.

I was talking about hunting in general. I don't know if very many people around here have known people who hunted for food - as in, wouldn't have quite enough to eat if they didn't hunt - but I have.

Braindeer's post reminds me that I won my first writing contest when I was...let's see...7 or 8. It a safety slogan contest, and my slogan was:
Don't throw a rock
Or you might have to go to the doc.

The meter sucks, but it's got a certain something! ;)
