Insurrection vs Nemesis

I know what you mean. When I was 12, I loved "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." Now, at 35, watching those old episodes on DVD, I see how ridiculously stupid that show was.

Both movies were bad. Insurrection had a bad plot, but at least it was original. Insurrection did, in my humble opinion, try to stay true to what TNG (as well as DS9) established. Nemesis on the other hand, had a bad plot, even though it was a shameless ripoff of TWOK, one of the most highly regarded Trek movies. Finally it disregarded most of the character devolopement and canon established throughout the 7 years of TNG as well as DS9.

Insurrection was a failure, but Nemesis was an epic failure.

Theoratically, Nemesis was the best movie in the whole entire franchise of star trek.

Theoretically, I flew fighter planes during World War 1.

Theoretically, I killed JR.

Theoretically, I had sex with an alien who then turned into Gary Numan and he proceeded to give me a backrub.

See, putting the word "theoretically" in front of a nonsensical sentence doesn't stop it sounding ridiculous. :)

I prefer Nemesis to Insurrection because while Insurrection makes more sense it is also the most boring Trek film. Nemesis had about a half dozen scenes that were quite good, but they were placed in a terrible story. It still wins out when it comes to entertainment value.

Insurrection's problem was that it didn't feel like a movie, it felt more like a two-part TV episode. If it was a 2 parter, it would have been a decent episode.

As a movie, it is IMO only average.

Nemesis, IMO, sucked all the way around. While it felt like a movie, the plot was so ridiculous that it was hard to take seriously. The logic flaws were astronomical in nature. I rank it by far as the worse TNG movie, and the third worse of the Trek movies. Only TFF (ST 5) and TMP (ST 1) draw lower scores, in my opinion.

I watched Nemesis one time, for free on YouTube when it was there, but I have yet to sit through Insurrection the whole way, and there was only one attempt. So by that criteria, I guess I liked Nemesis a little more. Insurrection remains he only Trek film I have not seen the whole way through.

I think they both get kicked around excessively. The plot holes of NEM - one could just as easily rip apart almost any movie and make it sound like the stupidest movie ever.

How is it that Vader, one of the most force-sensitive former Jedi ever, could not sense his own daughter, face to face? Especially considering his consuming love for her mother? How could he not sense Leia's force aptitude either? The movie plots were all written out years before.

Ok, NEM is no Star Wars, but just a case in point.

I like INS better, minus the incredibly stupid joystick. It's even worse where in the documentaries, I think Frakes, proudly says it was a modern, off the shelf joystick, as if that were some kind of clever inside Hollywood magic. But I like the big episode feel of INS, and the humor may be corny, but that is entirely consistent with Star Trek old and new.

I think thats why I personally get a little tetchy around Nemesis bashing...

The most annoying was a friend watched it for the first time at my house. As soon as the credits rolled he looked at me and said "Why did Picard am the ship? He would never do that,it makes no sense?"

Of course he wouldn't do that. Thats pretty much the point. Things about the film bug me and I'll comment on them (deck 29 for example) - but some gripes go beyond the point of logic into the realm of complaining for the sake of complaining.

Maybe he meant "theatrically?"

Am i the only one who thought the battle scenes in Nemesis were tripe? Something about them was just off. The pacing was horrible with its constant starting and stopping, the acting from the cast during it was incredibly forced and don't even get me started on that horrible Troi / Viceroy scene. EEEWWWWWW

The acting was the way it was because the movie was directed by someone who didn't know Star Trek from Star Search.

And the ironic thing about the battle scenes was that John Logan originally wanted a huge battle between Federation starships and Romulan warbirds against the Scimitar, but the scene was deemed to cost-prohibitive to film (which is utter nonsense with CGI), and that scene would have at least been one redeeming quality in an otherwise lousy film.

I like INS over NEM.

I'll still watch NEM though, fast forwarding through the crappy parts. INS has some parts worth FF though also, only, less of them.

I did like Ron Perlman's Reman character in Nemesis. Do most fans like this character?
The Viceroy was a stock henchman, and quite frankly Perlman was wasted in the role. It's one thing to bury an actor under tons of makeup (i.e. his performances in Hellboy and on Beauty and the Beast), but when you give him nothing to work with, why bother?

What, you don't find it completely believable that Troi could use her psychic powers to turn Worf's targeting display into an Ouija board? And of course, she's got the Narrow Box of Light™ across her eyes, so she must be doing something special there.
