inside a fetus

DS9 is my favorite modern trek..but sometimes, when I watch it? That 'background' rumbling noise makes me sleepy. I think I heard the same sound when my wife got an ultrasound of our son four years ago when she was pregnant...I think any 'remastering' of DS9 in the future should just make another sound...

Do you think it has anything to do with old style filming? It kinda reminds me of that sound from a VHS tape, or a cassette (the onces that CDs replaced). It bugs me if its pronounced...

Do the 1990s count as "old style filming?"

The background sounds on the ships and stations of Trek were designed and placed there very deliberately, and they are a major part of the "feel" of the scenes; visitors to sets and recreations of sets, after having a chance to think about it, frequently commented that the absence of these sounds was the "something missing" that at first made the sets feel differently than expected.

What I meant was, they aren't likely to be digital, I don't think. They'd be the film ones, and with cassettes and stuff, you get that hiss or whatever it is...

Not trying to make anyone feel old. :p
