Indiana Jones film trilogy

It's a neologism coined by the marketing team behind the Alien Quadrilogy DVD Boxset. I suppose "quad" is more recognizable to the general populace than "tetra."

So if quadrilogy isn't a real word, what would the proper term (for a four-film or four-anything series) be?

I love them all. They are fun adventure movies with intentional over-the-top action sequences and an interesting story to go along with. Also, Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is awesome. You can tell he loves that character and, as a viewer, makes me love the movies even more.

I think that deep down, Indiana Jones is the closest of Ford's parts to himself. Just a normal working class guy sucked into a world of adventure.

Indiana Jones. 'Nuff said.
ditto
Exactly.

Plus the films are the perfect homage to the wonderful serials from those thrilling days of yesteryear.

Exactly. I wish a studio would have the guts to produce hour long theatrical serials again... Two or three hour to hour and a half long serials a year. That would be great.

Closest thing in my life to such a thing was the "era of miniseries" from the 80's. Shogun, North & South, ect.

How would theatrical serials compete against the usual big-budget fare, though? Big franchises like Star Trek, Harry Potter, etc., after all, are serials, but with a bigger budget and less regularity of release.

Small-budget serials have long moved on to television, where they can be most profitable. I doubt we'll see a shift to 1930s distribution methods (which existed before most big budget serial franchises and, more importantly, television).

Back around 1978 or 1979 or so, there was a short-lived TV series called Cliffhangers which had three serials inclusive in a one-hour format. There was a "Dracula" series, a Western and a third that I can't remember off the top of my head. It was kind of fun, but really didn't catch on. I'd love to see a Cable Network try something like that again.

I like Harrison Ford in the title role, the opening theme, many of the action setpieces, the sense of adventure, and the boulder.

I hate that word.
I don't even think that is a word.
That's why I hate it. But I can see it becoming a word like ginormous, which I also hate.
I like ginormous. It's a good, honest silly word that was not pitched at some marketing meeting. I use it sometimes. But not often.

I hate Quadrilogy. Even assuming audiences don't get 'tetralogy' (fair enough), 'Alien Movies' or 'Alien Saga' or even something daft like 'Alien Cycle' (a la the Arkham Cycle?) is preferable to Quadrilogy. I believe they were released earlier as the 'Alien Legacy' set, which actually makes more sense than that word.

Also, shouldn't this be tetralogy? Or if that's too confusing, go back to Quadrilogy, or just use 'Indiana Jones Movies' or the... you get the idea.
