I think I'd want to see them at least stick to a period setting, that's the one thing that really helps it to stand out, and feel unique from similar franchises.
Yeah, come to think of it, I don't think making it too modern would work very well. Indy's Indy pretty much due to the era he's experienced, which in due part is part of its pulpy charm. A large reason why Crystal Skull for me felt off was that it was starting to feel a little too modern, if that makes any sense.
Indiana Jones in the modern era is just Uncharted. We already have Uncharted, it's great. I want to see Indy punching Nazis.
And they are making an Uncharted movie, with Tom Holland as Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully, so yeah, I don't think they would want to start encroaching on that territory.
