I'm going to see Avery Brooks!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but...

Brooks is starring in the U.S. premier of a play called, "Let There Be Love," at Center Stage in Baltimore, and I just bought a ticket. Front row, no less. I'm so excited!

That's great! I'm really excited for you! I met Avery Brooks about 5 years ago at the Vegas Con and it was awesome! Highlight of the con for me!

Bad news about that ticket.

I saw him on stage in Washington, DC during 2007 performing as Tamburlaine in the play of the same name. He was excellent. He's also a gracious and honest convention guest--I saw him in Seattle in 2005.

Don't listen to him, Tora Ziyal.

Hope you enjoy the show. Brooks is one of the most under-appreciated Trek actors, in my opinion.

(And for what it's worth-- I happen to like Brooks' performance in the above scene. No disrespect intended.)

I doubt it. Most theaters don't allow photography. I'll know for sure when I get there tomorrow.

Well, folks, the performance was a mixed bag.

It was definitely exciting to see Brooks in person. He and his voice are both as gorgeous as expected. I was in the front row, and a lot of the time, he wasn't more than 10 feet from me. When he first came out on stage, it was so tempting to say hello.

The play itself was really good, all the way up until the last few minutes, which I hated. So I left kind of pissed at the playwright.

I've never understood why some people complain that Brooks overacts in DS9. I love the way he portrayed Benny Russell. But today, ironically, I thought he was over the top. Maybe it was just too much for the intimate setting.

Or maybe the character needed to have an overly intense personality for the (miserable) ending to be believable. I don't know. <sigh>
