I'm curious...?

Every TV series is like an oatmeal raisin cookie. Nobody in the universe likes raisins, so everyone is after the cookie part.
Nobody likes raisins? :shifty: Crap, I must be in the wrong universe.

I liked Enterprise, though there are some bits I haven't seen yet (mostly from Season 4.)

I like raisins. And whether or not I'll eat an oatmeal raisin cookie depends on the cookie and if I feel like it.

I know this post is about Enterprise but Mod's please humour me cus I'm trying to get a general concensus from everyone. I'd do a poll too, but I don't know how to!

I was chatting to my friend a not so long ago, and he's a VHS trekkie...or was back in the day, and he mentioned that he hated ENT. I asked him whether he'd watched it all the way through, and he said 'no'. I was kinda stumped! I thought series 3 & 4 were better, and was curious how he could base his opinion on something he hasn't seen all the way through?!
I was curious how many people here have actually watched ALL of ENT then formed their opinion, even if ya hate it, or just went mad at the opening sequence and left it then and there? Or even liked it and haven't seen it all??

I guess the BBS is a bit biased towards trek in general, but no one else will listen!

I will try my hardest to watch a show all the way threw.

With Enterprise I did...Its Okay...I think the ep creators have mental issues because sometimes they were so sane we had weeks of Star Child night, then we go into a full Star Wars theme attack and finally when it is over go into a happy medium.

I still am missing seing 5 eps...

DS9...its so bad I don't even wanna try...

when it first aired on tv i liked the first season then during the second season i felt it was getting worse so i never bothered watching it any more. however i got hold of some dvd box sets and this time round quite enjoyed them.
i tend to agree with a lot of people that the star trek thing at that time was getting stale and should have got a year or two rest.

Yeah I watched ENT all the way through.
I see no reason why people have to watch something all the way through to have an opinion on it. That would mean there would be no purpose to discussing a show while it is airing, since nobody's opinions would be valid till the show ends. Would suck all the fun out of this place.

I don't agree, there's plenty of discussion to be had on a 'currently running' series, everyone seems to find something to talk about with JJ's film and thats not even out yet. But I find that, and especially with Star Trek that the varience is quite great from good to bad episodes and overall in good and bad series, that I can only really give an opinion overall by the end of it's production.

It's like eating half a nougart bar and missing the pink bit, so you don't know what it all tastes like.

For example I've been watching Boston Legal (I promise it's not because shatner's in it!) and I watched it all, and season 1-4 were really good, but season 5 lacked the depth that the others had. I wouldn't have had an overall opinion if I hadn't watched that last series.

I find I'll watch any trek that will absorb me into that Universe because I have such a fondness for it.

And...I like raisins.

I formed my opinions before seeing the whole series. It's tough not too after watching roughly twenty plus hours. Personally, I drifted away mid-way through season two. Enough was enough. Though I did finally finish watching the series when 'jonesing' for some new Trek. Season 1, 3, 4 and parts of 2 were better than ninety percent of what was on television at the time. Unfortunately, it just didn't have that 'spark' that would compel me to watch. That I lay directly at Scott Bakula's feet, his performance for most of the series was very uninspired reminding me alot of Kate Mulgrew's performances on Voyager. No matter the script you knew that Shatner, Stewart and Brooks 'believed' in the material... never got that feeling from Bakula and Mulgrew.

I'd disagree with that. I'd say Mulgrew believed in most of the material, but some of it was just of too low a quality for her to quite grab a hold of. Bakula, I've always felt, was a bad fit from the get-go. I don't think he really fit the character at all.

Watch Turnabout Intruder. That is an actor that relishes whatever material comes his way. Watch Shatners scenes with Dr. Lucas, how he seduces him into taking part in murder.

Maybe it is just a difference in training.

I just love actors that you can tell lose themselves in the role.

Should I really have to give a show - any show, even Trek - three or four seasons in order to judge it fairly? I don't think so. I gave ENT about half of season 1, then tuned in now and then part of that season and season 2, just hoping I'd like it better, but I never did. I never liked it at all, in fact. I've tried to watch it in reruns a couple of times since, too, and so far...nuthin'.

Maybe it did get better in season 3. But life's too short to spend hours and hours and hours watching a show that does just nothing for you, you know?

All of the Trek shows were pretty darn uneven their first seasons (except possibly TOS, and that depends on your definition of "uneven"). But early on they all - all - gave me something to really like: Interesting, even if sometimes flawed, plot premises, or characters I really liked or...something. Except ENT.

I watched about ten or so episodes from various seasons - I thought it was dire. Just the same old shite, some guy rocking from side to side in his armchair while the token ethic minority character went "shields/hullplating/whatever at 50%!"

After years of TNG, Voyager, DS9 - I just thought "this is it? the same old crap?"

TNG was really bad the first two seasons. If people had not given it a chance to grow and get better we would not have the ST resurgance we enjoyed. But TNG did not have much competition and people were hungry for Trek. When ENT came out we had been flooded with Trek plus a lot of other nice SF and fantisy shows. Viewers set their standards higher and ENT started out no better than TNG.

I only got to watch when going on vacation to Florida. The first episode I watched featured the decon scene between Trip and T'Pol. At that point I decided it was targeted towards teenagers and basement nerds. Next vacation I saw ANIS and that did it for me. No more wishing for a TW/CB station in my state so I could watch ENT. Two years ago I needed something to watch on my laptop while sitting with my father. I bought ENT on DVD and started from the beginning. This time I was not so burnt out on Star Trek and gave it a chance. I got attached to the characters and was willing to look past the writing flaws. After watcing it through I decided that it was no worse than any other ST series, it just came at the worst time and has the worst support from the network.

While I still rate seasons 1 and two down there with the first two seasons of TNG and just above the third season of TOS, I rate ENT 3 and 4 at the top fo the list. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

Most of these comments about Enterprise are similarly critical.

So I'm wondering, would trek be better if it were written by the fans? Would we realistically do a better job than commercial production teams? Could we produce a trek series which is financially successful. If so, then perhaps we need to convince the networks of this fact. That there is a lot of money to be made from trek, IF the long-term fans are able to lead the production.

However, if we look at a production like that ST:OGAM thing... it sucked.

On one hand I think that fans have a better idea of what is good, and are better able to predict what will be good. But on the other hand, it seems to be that fan productions are more likely to get caught up in the idea of epic space battles and over enthusiastic story telling, that looks both pretentious and self-parodic on screen. While some fan productions can focus on a story from a corner of trek-verse so esoteric which just looks dull on screen, and very few people are interested in it.

Whether you liked Enterprise or not, remember that it run out of money by the end. It was a commercial flop. I like to think that I'm pretty good at judging what is or would be financially successful in trek. I imagine that a lot of people on this board are.

I have to admit that I haven't watched a single episode of Enterprise yet. I never managed to warm up to TNG or DS9 so I didn't feel eager to try Enterprise as well.

As you say I can't judge the show without having seen it and so I won't.

However, I do think that a show needs to capture its audience right away or they're in trouble. Voyager did that for me. There's no way I'd continue watching if the episodes bored me.

Yeah me neither. I've maybe watched a few promo's...but that was the problem..I didn't even like the promo's. I also couldn't just "let go" and not in a flatulence sort of way -- I have no problem there LOL  but ya know the whole taking place before TOS thing and meanwhile everthing looked just too modern/new. I guess I'm going to have the same problem with this movie coming out as well. I know there must be others who can't accept this pre-history crap !! But I'm going to try this time...I will really I will!

I have to agree about DS9. By far the worst Trek ever. But the worst Trek is STILL better than most of what's on TV. And I thought ENT was GREAT except the last episode. That was friggin HORRIBLE.

Did I wake up in Bizzaro world this morning?

I watched it and loved it from start to finish. Archer and Trip are two of my favorite characters in all of Trek. I still miss it.

Watched it start to finish - first couple seasons a little tenous - perhaps like a real Star Trek would be - a couple misfires - a few mistakes - some adjustments . . .

I like raisins too - don't much care for oatmeal - only allow it on the planet because it's good for you - it's the raisins you bake the cookie around!

Maybe a little biased about Archer because he's so easy on the eyes and he has a peagle (a la Phlox!). Enjoyed the Trip/T'Pol 'ship too and Andorians! Andorians!
