I'm about to have a meltdown

Somebody suggested that I send a new email and apologize for the mistake. I think that's a terrible idea, because if he didn't notice it, my e-mail will just call attention to it.

You are worrying way, way, way too much about this. Let it go! You are your own worst critic, but no good will come of you stressing so much about this one typo. It is not going to cost you this job.

Someone needs to punch me in the face. :)

You are correct. A typo might make you look a little sloppy. A letter apologizing for a typo might make you look demented.

I think my father is demented for even suggesting that.

Do NOT do that!

Deep breaths....In with the butterlfies, out with the bees....

;)

Like all the other posters have said, i think you are being WAY too hard on yourself. I think because the San Diego job went pear shaped you're probably worried that this one will too.

I reckon this week you need to something nice for yourself and take some down time. Treat yourself to a good meal and movie or buy yourself something that you have been wanting for a while. You deserve it.

Yup. This has been a tough month. A very tough month. My emotions have been running high -- especially since I was about to move. Then the SD offer came and everything was thrown into chaos. Then I find out, that offer has been altered. Parts of it were rescinded. We also found out when our office here is closing, so I'm scrambling to adapt and find something. It's just too hectic. I just want to settle the hell down and not have to worry about my future for a while.

It wasn't altered due to my waiting. I wanted everything on paper and written down, something that was promised, but it never materialized. I'm not going to jump at an opportunity without knowing the details first. Especially one of this magnitude.

And that was exactly the right thing to do. Imagine if you'd already moved to SD before discovering the employer was rescinding on its word to you. That would have been disastrous.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for this job. Speaking as someone whose first and maiden names are constantly misspelled (there are about 10 different ways of spelling Mary Ann, and my maiden name has a silent letter), please don't worry about what was an honest typo. As others have said, that little mistake alone won't keep you from getting this job.

Sorry to hear about the SD opportunity. It sounded great. Apparently it was too good to be true! Don't sweat it. I've learned to only expect 10% of everything you are ever offered, and be happy if you end up getting THAT! :)

Don't sweat the typo either. And definitely don't send a follow-up. It happened. Let it go. You have your interview first and foremost to stand on, which sounded like it went fine. The fact you sent a follow up e-mail of thanks should outweigh any misspellings. And if it doesn't, why would you want to work for them anyway? There are going to be other opportunities out there.

Lots of good wishes from here, too.

Don’t beat yourself up about the typo. So many people don’t bother to say thanks for an interview anymore, I’m sure your efforts stood out. And judging by your posts, you’re quite literate--another thing that’s getting rarer nowadays.

I'm sorry to hear the SD relocation job didn't work out. Good luck in the job search. Try not to stress yourself out too much.

I'm sorry San Diego didn't work out, but this sounds like a good opportunity, too. I agree that a new email would be a terrible idea. Just let it go.

BTW, I once accidentally addressed a thank you letter to Ms. Male Interviewer instead of Mr. Male Interviewer. lol Didn't get the job, but the interview hadn't gone well, so I didn't expect to get it anyway.

Hey, it's not like we all pick our names! Everyone spells mine "Rahkee" instead of "Rakhee". I don't even correct people anymore.

And that wouldn't have even occurred to me to spell it like that, because I thought the "kh" represents a single sound. At least, it does in Russian and Arabic, so that's what I would figure for Indian languages. But sometimes I also forget other people don't have a (near) eidetic memory for spelling.

Speaking of which...I've always wondered what is more proper, for transliterating Hindi and Indian languages: transliterations with double consonants ("Rakhee" instead of "Rakhi"), or with single consonants? Reason being, I've seen the way that kind of spelling looked in old British literature and thought some of it looked insulting. ("Hindoo" in particular grates on my nerves every time I see it.) Is there actually a proper, formal transliteration system that should be used?

That you sent thank you letters at all should outweigh a small typo. Most people don't send thank you letters at all.

I had an interview with the secret service last year. They told me they appreciated me calling ahead to let them know I was going to make it to the interview on time. They said it let them knew I was really interested in the job. I agree that a thank you letter will go a long way.

At least you don't have people call you Mark...it is Matt! Matthew!!! :scream:

Do you get that too? I am a Matthew and I constantly get either Mike or Mark. I have a brother Mark, but even people who don't know him can't get my name right.:klingon:

YES! Ugh. I get called Mark instead of Matt all the time...I had started getting people to call me Matthew and it still doesn't help. :sigh:

I'm a Matthew, too, and I very frequently get "Michael". I guess it's an easy mistake to make - both two-syllable biblical names beginning with "m". But still, it's odd just how often it happens.
