If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go with ?

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

We never got Earth 2 in a regular timeslot, so I missed the pilot. And I caught a couple of eps and wasn't impressed.

The point with mine is, no FTL, so they're stuck in Earth orbit and have to wait for the planet to heal. Which also means ongoing interaction with the Earth, and strange things happening. Also, they have to deal with the escaped elite (now known as Martians, because that's where they went), trying to undermine them so they don't come seeking revenge. Yes, Earth goes to war against the Martians!

Since historical dramas seem to be en vogue on the premium cable networks, I'd do one set in the Holy Land during the Crusades, probably in the period between the Second and Third Crusades. My initial thought is to set it during the time of King Baldwin III of Jerusalem, starting with the regency of his mother Melisende and continuing on to the brief civil war that began when the pair contested the rule of Jerusalem. Another storyline could be the rise of Nur ad-Din, and his deputy (and future heir), Saladin.

I really would like to see a new take on Mutant X. I enjoyed the show...but think if on prime time and given a budget it could have been great. :)

Yeah, I was reading some of that stuff on Wikipedia a month ago, it sure is full of drama and history! I'd certainly watch it.

Thanks! I'm a history nerd, and I've always been interested in that period. If I were lucky enough to get several seasons, I'd probably make the first half of the show about Baldwin III and Nur ad-Din, and the second half about Amalric I (Baldwin's successor) and Saladin. As Saladin grew in power and influence, a rivalry developed between him and Nur ad-Din. Saladin was based in Egypt, and Nur ad-Din in Syria, with Amalric and Jerusalem between them.

I'd probably end it with the deaths of Amalric and Nur ad-Din and Saladin becoming Sultan of Egypt, all of which took place in 1174. Amalric was succeeded by Baldwin IV, whose rule of Jerusalem and relationship with Saladin was already covered (somewhat) in Kingdom of Heaven.

The irony, of course, is that if it was on prime-time (and presumably on a network), it probably would have been canceled early on.

^
Heroes lasted 4 seasons and Mutant X lasted 3...it might last half a season.

I would still like to see the original premise of "Mutant X". I'm not talking about an adaption of the comic either, I'm talking about the original premise they had that involved their lead character being a 12 year old super-genius named Adam Zero. That would have been a bold move on their part had they continued to develop that idea.

I had a thought the other night about a science fiction series set on Mars, dealing with the real problems of setting up a colony, and discovering the fact that there is an abandoned underground city. Millions of people move to the underground city from Earth while a few thousand remain on the surface.

The mystery of who built the city lasts the first season, and the last of the Builders return to enlist humanity's help in saving their species.

The Builders want to merge with humanity to create a hybrid race and the cold war between humanity and the Builders covers the second season, with the domed colony on the surface being destroyed in the season finale.

In the third season the war becomes hot. The season finale ends with the Builders' generational ships being destroyed and the survivors being exiled to Earth.

If a fourth season were to happen, the Builders and Earth humans would fight the Martian humans for control of the technology in the underground city. The season/series finale would see peace develop between the two groups.

I once wrote a series format and pilot script about Sherlock Holmes early career, when he first came to London. It was NOT like the film "Young Sherlock Holmes", when he was a school boy, but before all doors were open to him, while he was making a name for himself, learning his craft, and before Watson. I was very happy with it.

Someone in a special space suit which can sustain life for extended periods of time, like for months/years... and we see them flying through the galaxy and universe; explaining it. The suit can have it's own propulsion too...

I call it Star Suit. :)

He better get attacked by a space ameoba in the first episode or it's cancellation city for Space Suit!

A space opera about nothing.

Crewman gets stuck in some kind of shaft on the ship...BAM! There's an ep. :rommie:

Sure, why not? It's fine as long as somebody pays me. :)

I was just thinking about this topic early today. I think our society/economy would benefit from a series that would make science and engineering jobs sexy, while appealing to younger audiences heading off to college. So I would develop:

Mad Men meets Manhattan Project

and

Greys Anatomy meets Engineering Firm

and

Covert Affairs meets Big Oil

Something where lots of young attractive people can have implied hot steamy sex, with a healthy dose of melodrama, that highlights careers in science and engineering. Instead of choosing to be a doctor, lawyer, or cop, maybe those kids with the mental capacity to succeed in those feels would choose engineering or a non-medical science.

Just my thoughts.

A story about people prospecting for oil would be exciting. Not a soap like Dallas, more like the gritty process of trying to get oil out of the ground, maybe something historical, more like There Will Be Blood.

I want to create an Asian British Buffy the Vampire Slayer sitcom centred around a young girl who helps out at her family's news agency in London; The world will always feel like it's Halloween; but also silly. Our Heroine's Father is her Watcher/Trainer, her Mother's her Boss where she works and she has to protect everyone 'even people she does'nt like' from Monsters. She mostily fights Demons and Cousins wanting to Marry her. I'd like to capture London around Halloween and the 5th of November as a general feel to the episodes/filming, but always keeping true to the comic relief when things get serious and also, to the British Indianness and everyday typical London settings of it all.

She has 2 friends... 2 main villans too.

So that's a cast of 7. - She could be like a binary opposit to her Mother character.
