If you did this to your children

What do you think their reactions would be

I must say I am very impressed with the reaction of the last two little brothers.

and these little girls are fantastic

There are some very well behaved children in America.

I think that's really mean and exploitative. Not just telling a child that, but filming it and posting it to try and get fifteen seconds of fame. Ugh. :(

Yes, I couldn't do it to my own children. However that doesn't stop me from admiring some of the children's reactions which showed them to be far more considerate then one would expect them to be due to their age. The little girls sharing a single lollipop shows how much they love each other.

Aw. I couldn't watch more than a minute of it. Once it came to the little girl in the kitchen who whimpered 'Daddy?' and then started crying, I couldn't take any more. Poor kids. It makes me want to go out and buy them candy.

And the second video makes me very sad.

See if you can skip ahead to the last two little boys. They are wonderful kids and the oldest is such a good brother. He also has very good reasoning skills.

And the reaction of the two little girls in the second clip is heartwarming.

I went ahead and fast forwarded to that part, and yeah, the older brother is a very smart cookie, and the little brother is hilarious with the sudden gasp of realization about the peanut butter cups.

It just made me feel terribly sad, because these children are obviously very good children. Just something about it made me sad, like I figured out something of which I am yet unaware.

The heartwarming part was the sisters sharing the single lollipop.

I loved the way the older brother corrected his brother addition mistake praising him because he got so close. Here the full version of the boys' video. It seems that they are going to go viral.

I think that it's both horrible and hilarious, as are so many things. I don't have kids so I don't know what their reactions would be. The last two are adorable.

I dont know who is worse, the chat show host for encouraging it, or the parents, for a) doing it b) filming it & c) uploading it to the web, knowing there is a chance it may end up on TV.

I blame the parents, they didnt have to do what Kimmel told them, they had a choice.

Oh lighten the fuck up, this is truly a first world problem, making a joke on your kids' expense that gives them 5 minutes of disappointment followed by getting a bag of candy to enjoy. I think it's hilarious, and I agree the two boys in the end are awesome.

If it had been my three sons when they were children

No 1 son probably would have punched the wall.
No 2 son would have told me I was greedy and that I would have to go to the shops and buy them some more candy.
No 3 son would have just told me it was OK with him.

expect its not just that is it?

Its the reaction being filmed, and put on TV, for the world to see, that isnt right.

Thinking of my kids when they were that age, my daughter would have sussed out the joke immediately, and she would have helped my older son to do so. My younger son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, was non-verbal and very prone to tantrums at that age. There's no way in hell I would have ever pulled a stunt like this on him then (he's now 11 and would see right through a stunt like that and think it's funny). Whether it's OK to pull a trick like this depends on the child's temperament and the relationship between the parent and child. I've always joked around with my older children so they'd know not to take me seriously if I pulled something like that, but as I said I'd never have done this with my youngest child as he had no understanding of the concept of a joke at that time.

When I was growing up one of our favourite family stories was of the time my two oldest brothers went trick-or-treating and our mother put their candy in two separate stock pots, which were so full the lids didn't sit properly on the pots. My brothers were allowed a few pieces of candy each and were sent to bed. The following morning the pot lids mysteriously fit perfectly on both pots and our mother was in bed with a stomachache.

I thought this was going to be about the judge who took a belt to his daughter.

These videos are pointless in comparison.

Please... The videos are cute, and they'll be an amusing memory for the kids in a couple years.
no it wont, the kids will never want anyone to know about it, if the video hits the playground, the kids will soon see the downside.

Excuse me if I dont think its ok to make a kid cry for no good reason, and then put a film of it on TV.

I just did it to my kids.

My son: "NO!!!! WHY DID YOU EAT MY CANDY? I WANTED TO EAT MY CANDY!" (He cried.)
My daughter: "Why? You didn't ask if you could eat our candy!" (She didn't cry.)

Heh.

What Kimmel should have done is encourage US parents, to tell their kids that "Candy" is actually called "Sweets"

I think that people without children get the most upset about this because they're imagining what it would take to get that reaction in themselves.

But you can't project yourself onto them like that. Those of us with kids have seen this exact same reaction when the kid can't find a shoe; because she was told its bath-time; or because she didn't like what we're having for dinner.

It comes fast and it goes away just as quickly. Little kids' emotions are fast and furious but they rarely last and are quickly forgotten.

I could see how you'd think this was terrible if you've never seen a kid cry about the fact that they only get 1 turn at a time in a board game. Trust me, these kids were all fine 10 seconds later.
