If YOU could have any new star trek show you want...

Under these "anything goes" rules, what sort of show would you like to see
I pluck William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Gene Coon, D.C. Fontana, Jerome Bixby, David Gerrold, Robert Justman, Herb Solow, and others from 1967 and bring them forward in time. I get them working on new seasons of TOS.

I want a 5-year mission following up on the Enterprise's 5-year mission (well 3 in fact). A ship assigned to backtrack or otherwise investigate Kirk's Enterprise voyages. Let's go back to all the places we've all wondered about. Maybe just for the first season of the series I'm thinking of. A ship could be assigned to take a look at the Providers, the Metrons, Korby and I, Mudd androids, Gary Mitchell's grave on Delta Vega, the Iotians, the world of Sargon's people (that seems a natural, considering their claim), the Feeders of Vaal (oh boy, now there I expect lots of bad) and on and on. Some things can be said to be subsumed into ongoing and evolving Trek narrative--eg, we can assume, I think, that Ameniar and Vendecar are either members of the Federation or on peaceful terms with it, and probably the Iotians, although I would love to see Iotia again. Or maybe there are new events in those places that require a visit, or the return of old troubles. What's up with the Platonians, are they all playing nice, is Flint maybe old and decrepit but still alive, did he try to build another android (maybe he "put" himself into one, but better than Korby did)? Did Zefram Cochrane and the Companion/Commissioner Hedford have kids?.....anyway we've posted bazillions of lines of thought over that stuff, it would be nice to see it re-opened. Just for a season, and during all these investigations perhaps wider Federation plots can be opened to lead in to season 2 and new, more DS-9 like stories. I think that would make a great base for a series to launch bigly from--I'd be all over this if on tv. How could any Trek fan not be?

Star Trek - The Federation Civil war

I'd love to see Star Trek Destiny in live-action, on-screen. But that'd be a one time only presentation, in a mini-series format.

A series about the Romulan war would be cool, but I'd want it to be pretty visceral, this IS war we're talking about.. So it would likely be too violent and rated PG-13 and thus, never made.

Star Trek: Titan would be good too, but we'd have to have Frakes and Sirtis reprise their roles.

If I had to have an original idea for a shows premise, it'd be a series set in the 31st century, following either a specific time ship or a group of characters aboard different ships, venturing throughout time to prevent and correct temporal incursions. Although, as I type it, it sounds a lot like Legends of Tomorrow meets Quantum Leap...

.. so I guess nevermind. lol.

I know it might be quite boring to other people, but I would honestly like to see a series set in a Federation Colony. I would set it post-Dominion War, in a Federation Colony on the Cardassian border.
Background: The colony is located in the Demilitarized Zone, but remained in Federation control, so the citizens of the colony - although sympathetic to the fellow colonists who found themselves under Cardassian - were never explicitly involved in the Maquis. Nevertheless, the colony (which I like to call Nea Salamina - 'New Salamis') received a large amount of refugees during the war; refugees fleeing the Cardassians and the Jem Hadar. Now, many (though not all) of the refugees want to return home, yet Starfleet is unwilling to allow the refugees to return, as they do not want to be seen to be taking advantage of the destruction of the Cardassians, especially not by retaking old colonies.
Tensions arise as the refugees become disillusioned with Starfleet, and feel abandoned by the Federation. Whereas the citizens of Nea Salamina, feel like their hospitality has a limit, and are unwilling to provide permanent homes, jobs, etc. This would give writers the opportunity to discuss 'real world issues,' as they are fond of doing.

Characters: The series would follow different colonists, refugees, and Starfleet personnel, as they attempt to live their lives on the frontier of Federation space. As it is a Federation colony, it is open to all races of the Federation. Its location on the edge of the Demilitarized Zone makes it of strategic importance to Starfleet, as its their last outpost before Cardassian space (so it is in their interest to keep the colony on their side, and stable). The colony might even have some Cardassians seeking to make a new home after their defeat in the Dominion War.

Some Plot Ideas: This could allow the exploration of the Federation's views on inclusiveness and equality, etc., as having Cardassians in the colony would lead to interesting relations between the Cardassians, the colonists, and the Federation refugees. Maybe the new Cardassian government has a special eye on the colony to see how their citizens are treated in the Federation, and whether the Federation is serious about establishing better relations, and providing assistance with rebuilding.
I think it would also give writers the opportunity to explore other facets of the Star Trek universe e.g., the relations between Starfleet and civilian governments; how things like trade, and providing for your citizens' needs, works on a Federation outpost; Federation arts and culture; maybe it could answer the questions we all have on how society functions in the Federation; the increase in population could allow for the further exploration, and surveying, of the planet, or maybe its location makes it a popular place for Starfleet to meet non-Federation members, in a location that is not Deep Space 9. Admittedly, the opportunity to seek out new life, and boldly go where no one has gone before is bit limited by such a concept.
Finally, I've always had this idea for an episode, where the colonists are excavating in order to expand the colony (or whatever), and they come across some mysterious objects. The archaeologists/historians are called in and they discover a proto-Cardassian, or proto-Bajoran, civilization. The Federation archaeologists explore further and find skeletons, graves, works of literature etc. But the Cardassians, or Bajorans, discover the Federation's findings. This leads increased tensions with the Cardassians, or Bajorans. If their Cardassian, maybe they use this an excuse to support the superiority of their people, or to demand the Federation hands over the colony to them, as they clearly colonized it first. If their Bajoran, maybe they demand the Federation ceases the desecration of their ancestors graves, and religious sites, or maybe they too ask for its return, to its 'rightful heirs.'

Thanks for the opportunity to say what I would like to see in a show, and thank you for reading!

I'd like to see The Star Trek Variety Hour.

A song and dance sketch comedy type of thing, like the Brady Bunch did.

This magazine during the run of the series noted the Brady Bunch vibe too.

We had a similar prompt for an art challenge almost a year ago, this was my entry:
Here's my entry! My idea for the new series is that it's not just one ship out there exploring the galaxy, but a trio of ships working together. The large ship would be the main base of operations, and also the "big guns" if needed. The sleek looking smaller ship would take a fast scout role, hopping around and looking ahead as needed. The other smaller ship is basically a mobile sensor platform.

Nielsen ratings show vastly higher viewership numbers for the first two seasons.
This data says otherwise
First off, here's a rundown of the approximate number of homes tuned into Trek every year since TNG premiered in 1987 (these numbers compensate for the changes in the Nielsen system):

  • Fall 1987 - Spring 1988: 8.55 Million
  • Fall 1988 - Spring 1989: 9.14 Million
  • Fall 1989 - Spring 1990: 9.77 Million
  • Fall 1990 - Spring 1991: 10.58 Million
  • Fall 1991 - Spring 1992: 11.50 Million
  • Fall 1992 - Spring 1993: 10.83 Million
  • Fall 1993 - Spring 1994: 9.78 Million
  • Fall 1994 - Spring 1995: 7.05 Million
  • Fall 1995 - Spring 1996: 6.42 Million
  • Fall 1996 - Spring 1997: 5.03 Million
  • Fall 1997 - Spring 1998: 4.53 Million
  • Fall 1998 - Spring 1999: 4.00 Million
TNG peaked in the early 90s

I would just like to see a Trek series 20 years post Nemesis/Voyager picking up where the universe left off ignoring JJTrek.

I'd like to see Peter David's New Frontier books made into a series - for the squeals of outrage its irreverent nature would elicit from some, if nothing else.

Failing that, I'd be happy with something post-Voyager which would take advantage of the many talented Trek actors who currently have little to do. Goodness knows that they deserve something better than "Unbelievable!!!!!".

No I meant that quite literally within the Star Trek universe. Nothing lasts forever and the Federation will fall one day.

Except it's established canon that it's around in the 29th century. I suppose that doesn't rule out a rebuilding of it at some stage, though.

I'd like a Star Trek show that paid attention to the logical implications of their plot-solving technology of the week.

Chemicals that can make people move faster than the blink of an eye, develop psychic powers, and tech that can de-age you at the touch of a button. These things would be just as epoch-making to the evolution of a civilization as faster-than-light travel was.

In short, don't ignore the McGuffins and Phlebotinum that you've decided DO exist in your canon.

In fact in that period it may have fallen and risen again several times.... Why not?

Me too, on resetting to 1966-67 Trek. An uncompromisingly adult SF show, that is more about what's out there, than about characters' careers and love affairs and hobbies. Stop being embarrassed at the idea of trying to evoke a sense of wonder or awe. Stop focusing on adventure first and pleasing the lowest common denominator. Make continuity perfect but keep it in the background. Adult scripts with gut level, difficult issues, but not today's seriousness-lite with dark sets, gravelly voices, and simple tough guy clichés.
--------------------
I'd want more than one Trek show. So I'd like one about whatever the general situation is after DS9/Voyager with events jumping around our part of the galaxy. Surprise us. Maybe a series of mini-series dealing with this or that situation in a certain place, including a couple old Trek characters. I don't want to get pinned down on one ship again.
