If you could go back in time....

I'd go back to yesterday and create this thread first, then laugh manically as I watch it snowball in popularity :klingon:

Actually, no. Admit it, at some point in your life you've wanted to go back in time and "invent" your favourite song before the artist got there first. I think I'll do that instead.

Believe or not there aren't many things I'd change in my life. It isn't that I'm perfectly content with how things have played out, it's just that some of the things I'd change don't seem like such a big deal. Although it's quite possible that one or more of those small changes could have had a huge impact.

Such as: if I'd moved from home and gotten my own place when I started working rather than buying my first car when I was 19. Seems small, but I might have matured faster and experienced some of life's tougher realities sooner than I had. Things can be softened to an extent when you're living at home. Lessons learned earlier might have served me better down the road.

Otherwise, I figure we do our best with what we know at the time. My only other regrets are essentially not making a fool of myself in one or two relationships. Who knows, they might have worked out better.

I'd go back to see all the ancient civilizations . . . the Bimini Road, Stonehenge, Nazca Lines, the construction of the Pyramids, Atlantis

then I'd go to the 50s 60s and 70s and start a collection of classic automobiles. I'd bring back 2 of each . . . one for my collection and one to sell :D

maybe I'd also go back and buy stock in Google when they first went public :D

You know, I've rethought this. If I could go back in time, I'd try to visit everywhere. Not all at once, just a little at a time. That way I could see everything.

And I would still make myself rich.

The 60s were your youth? Wow, you must age really slowly. :D
I try. :D

If it had to be done time machine style, aside from wanting to visit all the big moments and more, I'd like to go to South West Scotland in late 1959, and look in at the little shop my parents built and ran there. Wouldn't tell them who I was, just call in, buy something, see them young, in love, and with their son, me. That would be the coolest thing.
That's a nice idea. I'd like to go visit my grandfather, who died when I was two.

There was a story in Analog back in the 90s, I think, about a writer who went back to the beginnings of Science Fiction and wrote all the classics decades early. I think she was trying to accelerate social progress or something.

Hmmm, I might try and hunt that down at some point. I have to admit, I wouldn't do it for the greater good of social progress, just the kudos of being "the dude who keeps inventing all that awesome stuff". Until someone goes back in time and does the same thing to me.

Then it gets done to them, and so on backwards through the ages. Eventually we'll be more advanced 4000 years ago than we will be in 20 years... I'm not sure how that's gonna work out for us. Probably badly :shifty:

I thought of more, I'd like to visit various ages. I also would like to travel back to when I was littke so I can see how I used to signed.

I would gather up a bunch of fundamentalist Christians, take them all back to the age of dinosaurs, point to the clock and to the dinosaurs and say "SEE!!!"

I would go back to 1963 and pop the guy who accused me of having something to do with that Kennedy business.

I don't like witnesses.

I would convince my younger self to get hooked on baseball much, much earlier in life. I only started a year or so ago. I wish I'd been this much of a fan all my life. And I definitely would have gone along on *all* of my dad's baseball trips (he has seen every ballpark in the country - past and present).

Then god would point at you and say "Go away and come back in a 300 million years, I'm not done yet.", and then a voice is heard in the distance... "God? Where are you. Come on in son, your dinner's ready", and the dinosaurs will all roll their eyes at each other. :p

Anyone else wonder how MadBaggins would answer this? Time travel would be a great addition to season 4.

RJ, the story was in '92 or '93-I've got the issue packed away somewhere and those were the only 2 years I subscribed. She was trying to avert Vietnam, Three Mile Island and the Watergate scandal if I recall...something about a brother dying in the war? Or am I confusing that with another story?

I noticed no one mentioned Woodstock-1969 upstate New York, Yasser's farm, that's where I'd like to be....

changed my mind i would love to go to shakigahara (sp?) in 1600 japan that would be awesome watching the battle. from what i've been told it was that battle that helped unify japan.

Yes, there was definitely some bad outcome she was trying to prevent-- or maybe just the overall trend. It's been so long I can't remember the details, and I have those issues packed away, too. I tried Googling, but I couldn't come up with anything.

I'm guessing the "something" was to earn some royalties. :D
