If you could disallow one episode.....

If you could disallow ONE episode from TOS' continuity which would it be?

I'd readily nominate And The Children Shall Lead. There is actually a genuine story buried within this episode that could have been told, but practically anything that could go wrong did go wrong when they produced this sucker. It still has the odd moment in it, but that's just far too little to redeem it in any way.

If I could I'd say throw it away and trash it. It is the nadir of TOS.

I wouldn't really disallow any. All 79 are so imprinted into my psyche that there really isn't any that doesn't "belong."

I don't think I'd disallow any one story so long, as you noted Warped9, that there was a genuine story buried in there somewhere. There are any of a number of things in a slew of episodes I'd rather pretend aren't there, but I accept them to a point since plot details alone don't make or break a story for me.

Probably Turnabout Intruder. Even though I've always loved Shatner's performance in that episode, its dated '60s sexism is now beyond anachronistic.

I would want to let "The Omega Glory" disappear. I loathe that crappy episode!

Mu god, at times we actually agree on some things. ;)

A tie between "And the Children Shall Lead" and "The Alternative Factor."

Requiem for Methuselah. The more I see it, the more I hate it. Kirk just comes of appearing brain-damaged.

My first answer would be 'no.' Sure, there's plenty of episodes I'm indifferent to, but none I can't stand...

And then I remember a repressed memory so haunting it's probably damaged by psyche. 'The Way to Eden.' Yeah, we reach. We reach all right... ugh.

The Lazarus one just has so many logical loopholes and annoying inconsistencies it'd be worth decanonizing that one if none of the others.

Turnabout Intruder for the same reasons. Though Shatner's performance was hilarious.

To this day I'd give three thousand quatloos to anyone who can find a script for that ep with the line; "there a many women ships captains, it's tragic Janice went insane." or something.

I like them all, but if one had to be sacrificed so the rest could be saved I'd reluctantly choose Catspaw.

Turnabout Intruder for the same reason as everyone else, its sexism dates it. It's one of the few episodes that I can think of off the top of my head that places it squarely in the 1960's.

Conscience of the King.

Not only is it a lousy, lousy episode, but it would resolve the "Vulcan was conquered" problem.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Well, I know I said I couldn't disallow any of them, but if we're talking reluctant sacrifice... (The good of the many and all that) ;)

...Now that I think about it, I might be able to put Turnabout Intruder up on the alter and carve its heart out.

Yeah, agreed - it's total crap and the most awful way imaginable to end the series.

Plato's Stepchildren, And The Children... and Gamesters of Triskellion are the only three I skip regularly when going thru the series.

Wow, that's one of my top 5 favorites. I never paid any attention to the conquered Vulcan flub. To each, I guess. :D
