If Not Ezri...

Sela as the Romulan representative on DS9. The idea being a half human would get on better with the Feds. But lots of tension between her and Worf (who knew her mother...well kinda).
Sela demanded ... she insisted ... that from the age of 4, when her mother was executed, "everything that was Human in me died that day. All that's left now, is Romulan. Never doubt that." You know what? I believe her ...

Yeah, she was kind of a psychopath.

Irrelevant really. She can pretend to like her human side again for the benefit of her federation hosts whilst she ruthlessly pursues Romulan interests. The Romulans are, afterall, a duplicitous, sneaky bunch.

You can't just dismiss canon, sir. I've tried. How desperately, I've tried. But the fans are too vocal ... too resistant ... you can't call that irrelevant ...

I would never accept not having Ezri. She's adorable (as is Nicole de Boer). If anything, I wished she'd joined the show in an earlier season. I never cared that much for Jadzia. Sure Terry is beautiful but her character was just so bland and boring, although she did improve when she hooked up with Worf. Ezri was so much more interesting. And cute, did I mention she was cute?

No argument there.

Yeah. Although he was featured fairly regularly, he was still a guest star. He would have been a more natural fit to help Worf get over Jadzia's death than O'Brien was.

I think we saw a lot of him in the last season. Plus he played the changeling laas for an entire episode.

I must be in the minority, because I like both Jadzia and Erzi. I'll agree though, that Ezri was a more interesting character and it would have been fun to see her grow over 7 years.

By killing off Jadzia, they kind of backed themselves into a corner, so I don't think that they had any choice but to bring on a new Dax. Otherwise, we would always be asking where's the new Dax at?

They could have killed the worm as well.

I liked Ezri a lot and would have preferred to have her from season 1. I liked Prodigal Daughter and Field of Fire too. Many interesting suggestions here, but none that I'm convinced would really have been better.

Leeta and Rom probably could have handled having more to do.

Sela was an interesting character to watch... but I don't think the Romulans would assign her to DS9 when they were attempting to strengthen an alliance with the Federation. Maybe Denise Crosby could play another Romulan character?

Jadzia suffers from writers indecision. One episode she's a sassy party animal and the other she's DS9's Vulcan. And the two characterisations don't really gell well in her instance. She's a fair and good character all-in-all yet she's still the weakest-link in a very potent cast.

With Ezri, I feel that they overplayed the neurotic aspect of her initially with the single caveat that her scenes with Sisko are good. She does integrate with the ensemble reasonably well and you almost forget that she's a recent addition.

Also, what's the point of even having a Trill character to begin with if you take one of their most unique aspects, that the symbiont can live on even if the host dies, and completely disregard it?
