If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or not?

Re: scene inserted on DVD?

Victor Garber as a Klingon? Now this oughta be interesting...

I thought Abrams didn't do "director's cuts" though? I thought the theatrical version *was* one.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

I've heard the same about Abrams only having the one 'cut' for the DVD films, with deleted scenes staying as extras.

As for ridges or not, I'd like a variety, from very little (if any) to heavily ridged Klingons, to give them that varied racial look, rather than cookie cutter.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

Yeah, that would be neat. They should have both ridged and non ridged. If anything, it shows that the whole race wasn't afflicted with the virus in Enterprise.

That too. Would further support a link to the Enterprise series, a link already somewhat supported with a few comments in the new film.

I like the idea of having both kinds...ridges and sans-ridges...

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

Culture wise, go back to the Klingons in "Errand of Mercy", make them real nazi like, forget the multiculturalism, give us a enemy you can really hate.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

Who cares? Seriously. Does anyone give a shit? I doesn't keep me awake at night. Just keep the bloody ridges. It's not going to kill anyone and will keep them recognizable. The make up in TOS was a joke at best and when you have money it's a good idea not to imitate cheap stuff.

This is not entirely across the board.
Production Design being one.
For the TV series Enterprise Herman Zimmerman's design of the NX-01 gave a retro look that was supposed to have been before the NCC-1701 Enterprise that came 100 years later.
While the medical bay surely was high tech looking even for a 2001 TV series.
There are aspects of the rest of the interior of the ship that truly imitate cheap stuff (design-wise) from the 1960s.

(not looking at the votes)

Bumpy: as far as possible I'd like to see the aliens look alien.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

Since the deleted scenes we have watched from XI answer are question as to what the Klingons will probably look like in the next film I would be surprised if they went back to the smooth forehead look though a mix of both wouldn't bother me at all.

No they don't answer the question. In the deleted scenes, the Klingons are wearing helmets to hide whether they have ridges or not, and as for the make up the actor wore, that was just designed so it might look cool if briefly glimpsed through a small eye opening. That glimpse would have been so small that even if it had not been deleted from the film, the filmmakers would have been free to make a fresh decision about the Klingons' look in the next movie.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

I really wouldn't mind a compromise of sorts. To be honest, the huge 80's hair (or Worf's Prince Valiant cut - shudder) always bothered me a hell of a lot more than the ridges. You could keep a certain sophistication to the makeup design, but have short-cropped hair, for instance. You could even have a softer touch on the women, to allow them to be more attractive to a general audience. And drop the goshdarn teeth! It always irks me when the false teeth interfere with an actor's line delivery.

For the Klingon culture, I would like to see a return to something closer to TOS where they can be more sophisticated and refined, but still mean as hell. As Kirk says, a "military dictatorship". Really, it would just be nice for the sheer change of pace - the Klingon characterization has been more or less static for twenty years. Although arguably they were developed quite a bit on TNG and DS9, it definitely got a little old for me.

Re: scene inserted on DVD?

According to this article the Klingon scene played by Victor Garber will be inserted into the film (director's cut?)
http://insidemovies.moviefone.com/2009/10/16/william-shatner-victor-garber-star-trek-dvd/

I quick note, the fact that JJ Abram's cast Victor Freakin' Garber as the representative Klingon says everything to me about his approach. Based on the make up you see on the actors in still photography the new Klingons look more fearsome and wolf-like which is awesome. And then by casting Victor Garber who is best known for playing the tragic/heroic engineer in Titanic, you get away from their dumb-vikings talking like cavemen presentation that permeated Trek.

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

Forget the ridges. Give 'em horns!

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

I'd like to see more subtle ridges than the TNG era... I liked the Klingon look in the later TOS movies (and its diversity in ridge appearance)

Re: If Klingons show up in Abramsverse films would you want ridges or

I like to think that, like humans on Earth, species in Star Trek have multiple races.

Example:

Spock= caucasian Vulcan
Tuvok= black Vulcan

In "The Cage", the Orion slave trader refers to orange and blue slave girls (in addition to the green ones).

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned the Kazon from Voyager. They had sects that evolved apart and appeared (somewhat) differently.

I think that a retcon (Firstly, all of Enterprise should be retconned and never referred to again) should be done of the "explanations" of the ridges and just consider that TOS Klingons and all the others are merely two races set apart from each other.

Chang looked like a mexican Klingon to me. Why not have white Klingons? Ridges. No ridges. Horns? Sure. As long as they look generally the same, they could all be slightly different.
