...that's because it was rushed.

That ending came as part of a last-minute reshoot that was made after Paramount pulled the plug on the show.

If Paramount decided that Season 6 would be the final season, then we might've had a more proper ending.

But since the cancellation was so out-of-the-blue (they had already wrapped up filming S5), this is what we're left with.

It's just the epilogue that was part of the post-cancel shooting. They didn't reshoot anything before that.

I just wish we could've had something better than "Red Directive" & name dropping Croft. It felt extremely forced and almost as if we needed to give Burnham the last word.

TBH, if the episode had ended with Michael and Book walking off into the sunset and we didn't have the epilogue, I would've preferred it a bit more.
