Ideas You Hope To NEVER See In The New Films

The characters being written as irresponsible teenagers who probably still draw giant cartoon dongs on their notebooks, as opposed to responsible adults in command of a very large, very dangerous starship, is definitely something that needs to go.

No creepy children and no humans are perfect with holier than thou attitudes.

This.

And no molonoguing Michael Eddingtons, either. That guy was full of it and did not know when to shut the fuck up. The thing is, that kind of character has a way of popping up all over, and I hate them all.

Spirk, Spork, McKirk, Spones, McSpirk, McSpork, McSpock, Kock and Rand serving Kirk anything but a swift kick to the "you know where."

no long winded plots that end up revealing that Stargate, SDF Macross/Robotech, Lost In Space, Doctor WHo, Highlander, Space Battleship Yamato, and Babylon 5 are all part of the Star Trek universe and having the main characters in each of those franchises get sidlined by mary sues that are forced into the plot. Especially if their the same mary sue characters.

Mary Sue finds the Botany Bay and is ensnared by the magnetic allure of Khan. Their love child is artifically aged to adulthood to become the new Empress of the Klingon and Romulan Empires finally united in their hatred of the Federation's lens flare policy.

The destruction of the Kelvin having had no impact on the Federation, during those 25 years between it and the Enterprise's launch.

Big shit should've hit the fan, once evidence pointed in the direction of an old enemy's involvement. Sure, the Romulan Star Empire around in the 23rd Century ain't responsible for Nero. But wars have started on less evidence frankly and waylaid us from going straight to the real culprits. A depleted number of Captains in Starfleet, resulting from a campaign to tackle old unfinished business, may have resulted in a fast track program - making Kirk's rapid rise easier to swallow.

The destruction of Vulcan having absolutely no effect on the Star Trek universe going forward from here...

God knows where that should go really. But somewhere. If not for the bigger picture, then for Spock. Who isn't your average Vulcan and being half-human, ought to remain affected by emotion. Personal loss. Redemption. I don't know...

Kirk's seemingly skipping more than 5 ranks, straight up to Captain, has always irked me, because it seems to be a common element in almost every "How Kirk Became Captain" plot, be it in a novel, a fan fiction, or now an actual movie. Apparently in Starfleet, all you have to do is wait until the Captain and First Officer have simultaneous heart attacks, and then you can jump straight into the Captain's chair.

There was a long thread last year about this very topic. I think we concluded that Starfleet must be a meritocracy.

1) No more time travel! We've seen time travel of one kind or another used in 5 out of 11 films, but it sounds worse when you consider that this plot device has been used in four out of the last five! The only TNG movie that didn't rely on it was Insurrection.

2) No rehashes of previous film villains, ESPECIALLY Khan. Maybe throw in a villain or two from the original TV show, but NO KHAN.

3) If you're gonna kill off a major character, first I wouldn't do it until at least "Trek 13" (I'm assuming we'll get that far), and, secondly, make sure the death has both meaning AND finality. I was okay with bringing Spock back in TSFS, but still I admit the way it was done was a silly plot contrivance. I was NOT okay with Kirk's or Data's deaths, because neither had much in the way of meaning or emotion, and at least Spock's felt like it was servicing both the character and the plot of TWOK. Kirk's was a disservice to the character, and Data's was a carbon copy of Spock's for the sake of being a carbon copy.

4) Don't even think about turning one of the crew gay. Just don't.

5) We had Klingons as villains for more than enough of the original ten movies. No need to return to that just yet. There are plenty of other races and entities to explore. Hell, you could even be bold enough to make the main villain *GASP* a human! Haven't done that one in a movie, yet (not counting the human conspirators in TUC).

Now, one idea I WOULD like to see happen relates to the musical score. We've already heard the original TV theme in Trek XI's end credits. How 'bout updated, cinema-worthy versions of Spock's theme, the danger theme, and "Ritual/Ancient Battle/2nd Kroykah" for future movie soundtracks?
