I'm listening to this now. It's frickin' awesome! I don't know if there is an audience for it but if they released audios of new material like this I would be on board.

Didn't they do something like this with the Alien franchise? I think it could work if the right people were brought on board. So not Alec Peters, obviously. In fact, CBS commissioning official fan films would be great because his melt down at not being invited would be spectacular.
The way it could work is if it allowed for more unique and outside-the-box stories. The problem with both fan films and a lot of current official Star Trek is that they tend to shy away from that and go for things aimed at existing fans. Since the sky would be the limit, you could go nuts and tell any story you wanted, as long as it tied into Star Trek.

Well, I was thinking more of productions that were actually allowed to sell copies on disc and/or streaming format.

Yes, that is the current trend. Fans do not want something different. Fan films gave CBS the impression that TOS era with familiar tropes and characters. Discovery was perhaps the closest with newer Klingon designs and ships and that received immediate push back.
