According to a couple of sources, Ice-T was the original casting favorite for the role of Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but at the time, he was too tied up with his Law and Order and rap commitments to be able to sign onto another project.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and some things have changed. Has anyone heard if he's been approached for a role in Discovery?

    "Yo, Jean-Luc! You suck!"

I would have watched the hell out of that!

    ;)

No, seriously, this is the first I've heard of this. Got any links that can confirm he was considered for the Sisko?

Yeah, I've never heard Ice-T was considered for Sisko.

I would mind him showing up on Discovery. His character on Special Victims Unit was one of the best things about the show before I stopped watching.

Me too! This was at a convention in Hampton, VA around 2000. The presenters mentioned that Rick Berman and Brannon Braga specifically were the ones who were interested. I don't know if the higher-ups at CBS were ever involved.

Also, Ice T did not start appearing on Law & Order until a year after DS9 ended.

Obviously, some chroniton particles are causing trouble again. Paging the boys in Temporal Investigations...

Hmm. Maybe they were thinking of the 1993 hip-hop movie movie "Who's the Man?" in which Ice-T played a character called Nighttrain. That is more in line with the production timeline.

You're confused. Picard's drink is hot Earl Grey tea. Sisko's drink was supposed to be iced tea.

Ice-T was never in the running for Sisko, although a few other actors were: Gary Graham, James Earl Jones, Tony Todd, Carl Weathers and Eriq La Salle. Even Alexander Siddig was even up for it at one point (he auditioned for Sisko but they thought he was too young). But Ice-T never was.

As for Discovery: There's no way Ice-T would bolt from SVU now, as it's still going strong and is doing fairly well in the ratings. Although I admit that Ice-T would make a pretty good Klingon, at least of the QuchHa' (TOS Klingon) variety! :klingon:

And SVU didn't even exist when DS9 started.

Actually due to advances in special effects, they can show him in his true form.

If Ice-T can't then perhaps Mr. T is still available?

I can't even imagine Ice-T as Sisko. I think it's his voice. Avery Brooks had that loud, booming voice; Ice-T certainly does not. He'd have been a very different version of Sisko.

As for Discovery, it'd be great to see Ice-T as a Starfleet Admiral or a Klingon.

Ice Cube would have made a better Sisko.
