I don't really care who directs as long as they try something different.
I would like JJ Abrams to direct Star Trek 4.

I'm perfectly happy with Abrams producing, and letting Lin/Pegg/Jung take the brunt of the creative reins once more. I thoroughly enjoyed Beyond far more than ST09 and STID. Having a director that's been a life-long fan of the series made a significant difference in the final product. YMMV, of course.
I just don't want Kurtzman and Orci to ever write for Star Trek again.
And I think it's nice to have somebody directing who actually likes Star Trek. Unlike JJ.

I'm not too familiar with Abrams' overall body of work, but lest we forget, if his production and direction of ST09 and STID had produced bombs, Lin would've never had the chance to do number three. Like him or not, Abrams returned "Star Trek" to relevancy. Of course, I guess one can always wonder how much better he would've done had he actually been a fan of "Star Trek" like Lin is.

The idea that a director needs to be a "true Star Trek fan" (whatever that means) is pretty silly and already proven untrue.

If that's a reply to me: I don't want the director to be a "true Trek fan". I said it helps when the director actually likes Trek. I think JJ loved Star Wars' style but simply doesn't give a shit about Trek. And you notice that in how he treats Trek's characters and themes.
Being a good director is even more important, though. And a great script. Abrams has made good movies before. But Kurtzman and Orci are just awful if you ask me.
Damon Lindelof also should be added to that list.

I think there is some confusion here - JJ was the director, not the script writer. And what's really important is the script. If JJ wants to direct again, that would be okay (he at least should be respected as the guy who made Trek on screen a commercial proposition again), but he needs writers who won't make the mistakes of the previous films.

He's one f the 'visual storytelling' types like (but not as bad as) Michael Bay. Plot (and internal logic) are secondary to image and spectacle with fast pacing and lots of action.
I was really hoping for more from Lin, Pegg and Beyond, but sadly it's just more of the same.
I'd like Trek 4 to start with a good plot / script, and a more 'old school' director.
The story for this movie is lot more straight-forward, and the characters are given more room to breath, while still managing to cram in more action. So, yeah, dump the old writers and get Pegg and his writing partner to do the next one also.
No to Pegg too. He had his shot and blew it.
If that is blowing it, he should keep doing it. He's pleasing the audience.
Still full of plot holes and silliness, frantic action, a motorbike sequence...hard to tell what difference Pegg made.
And it appears to be a significantly smaller audience.
He added a lot of nice character moments and humour.
I just wonder if Meyers involvement with STD could possibly lead him to be interested/be approached about directing ST4? (I know he hasn't directed anything in years and has said he couldn't do these fast paced CG blockbusters but ..you never know. maybe Paramount would be open to a more mature approach to the JJ films , Meyers got a great timetravel record, and itd be a huge deal having him come back)
