I swear that's an NX class they're flying in the new trailer!

It is smaller then the NX, but not that much. The Franklin has 6 decks, while the NX has 7. I've seen the number 6 on a turboleft on the Franklin bridge in a picture I've seen over at Trekcore.

That does not mean it has six decks, and looking at the concept art there is no way in Hell you'll stuff six decks in a ship that size. Three, maybe four at the most.

Yes it does. If the doors had both a number and a letter? It would be just a room. It's does not has that. It has a number. Which means it's a turboleft doors. Which means that the concept art doesn't fit with the filming production picture. Here is a link to the picture I am referring to; And you can see the number 6 on the turboleft door.

That does not mean that the ship has six decks. We have no idea what that number means. :)

I agree with TrekYards that it is the JJ version of a Loknar class Starship:

They're clearly on the ship's bridge, which wouldn't be on deck 6. The bridge is always on Deck 1.

Loknar, Akira, NX, they all have a similar design (dish, no secondary hull, nacelles attached to saucer with funky pylons).

It does look closer to a Loknar than the others though, owing to the shape of those pylons.

The Nu crew flying an NX would be a little like Christian Bale's Batman wearing George Clooney's suit with the Bat-nipples. Or like putting Jar Jar Binks in The Force Awakens.

The whole point of the reboot is to get away from that garbage.

Are you saying they can't salvage and repair an old ship?

I don't see any issues with that.

The NX class Enterprise is on Marcus' desk as a highly detailed model, completely identical to the one in the series. Everything from 2151 to 2233 happened in both universes until Nero arrived.

So either way, Enterprise is the only series that survived and can be depicted in both however they please.

In thinking about some speculation:
The USS Franklin somehow contaminates or messes with Krall's civilization and that's his reason for disliking the Federation and attacking Enterprise
I love that the Franklin ends up somehow used to get them out of the situation. A kind of irony or plot symmetry.

I just like that it's similar to ST3 in which the crew must commandeer another vessel after the loss of the Enterprise in order to get themselves out of a sticky situation, Only this time, it's still a Federation ship.

Probably a bit too similar, IMO. It makes the Abrams series look more and more like it's just rehashing the original movies. I'd this point I'll be surprised if a fourth movie isn't about saving the whales, a fifth about Sybok, and a sixth about peace with the Klingons.

The ship in the trailer does look a bit like the NX-01 from that angle, but I think if you look closely you can see the saucer has a wedge out of its rear, like the Franklin.

Other obvious differences: the saucer rim is angled the TOS way, not the ENT way, and the impulse engines are in the middle of the stern cutout, not at the ends of the booms and at the saucer rim. I doubt there was any intent at any sort of similarity.

But yeah, recycled plot elements. Not in the exact same order and context, though. But if the movies go beyond #3, I wouldn't bet against whales appearing.

Not so much whales. More time-travel with any luck. You've got a Kirk lamenting never having known his Father in this. So perhaps that's what a fourth film should literally explore. With the tantalising carrot capable of restoring the old continuity dangled... and then swiftly snatched away! :D

Yeah, halfway through Into Darkness, I stormed out of the theater and demanded my money back because they charged me to watch the exact same movie I saw back in 1982.
