I swear that's an NX class they're flying in the new trailer!

Maybe one way to resolve the "NX-class" issue for some is there could have been an unnamed "NX-00" that was nothing more than a crude test-fit article. Enterprise would still be the first operational ship of the design, though.

But I just go with the NX-class being an extension of the original NX Program, which may have had more to do with verifying the Warp 5 engine than the particular ship design, IMO. In that sense, we may be looking at a spacecraft project that's a bit closer to NASA rather than the U.S. Navy (at least in how it started)...

I started to try to research this but quickly realized that A. it would take forever, and B. I really felt like it was more on Billj to find the information to refute me, since he took issue with it, than it was on me to back up something I was primarily saying just to paraphrase Bobby Singer on the intarwebz, anyway. Or at least, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;)

You're the one making the claim "were idjits". Without knowing how other navies operate, it is a pretty ignorant claim.

I actually do know a bit about how *some* other navies operate, and the ones I'm familiar with are fairly similar to the American Navy as regards their ship classes and names. BUT, disregard that - I think having knowledge of the poor quality of most episodes of "Enterprise" is more than enough to make saying the writers were idjits an *informed* claim, thanks. ;)

So I made this:

The NX-01 in that shot looks like the NX-01. The Franklin looks like the Franklin. What's the issue here?

It's no worse than NX-Alpha or NX-Beta...

Unless Starfleet knew in advance they were going to build more than a hundred NX-class starships. Otherwise, they would just go from NX-99 to NX-100 if necessary, IMO.
Methinks you've not been fully exposed to the depth of...passion our friend holds towards registery numbers for starships.

"NX-00" .

We know from "First Flight" that the NX-Alpha, Beta, Delta etc prototype ships operated first, then they went right to building the Enterprise.

That still doesn't explain why the Franklin looks so much more like the 2009 fleet complete with NuPrise style nacelles of the 2240's onwards.

We should probably play "Guess the Franklin registry number". I guess NCC-1706, the year of Benjamin Franklin's birth.

Ah...I see.

That's the thing, actually. The NX-class was the end result of the NX Program. It was more of a long-term project to perfect the Warp 5 Engine than anything else.

They went on at length about all the things they built during the project, it was a big part of the show. If there was some sort of NX class "thing" they'd have shown or mentioned it. Enterprise went into production the minute the Proto's proved the concept.

Five years went by between the NX-Delta breaking the Warp 3 barrier and the start of construction on Enterprise, so it wasn't done "the minute" after. The NX Program was stated as a project to reach Warp 5 with Henry Archer's engine, but done in increments (Warp 2, then Warp 3 and so on).

They went from warp 2 to warp 5. The Novelverse covers the details, there's no NX Zero.

Enterprise *is* that prototype, Columbia was the first proper NX with all the corrections needed, hence her different appearance and upgrades. The war accelerated the development, leading to the Columbia Class (NX refit) were the Enterprise had it bolted on, but the Endeavour had it largely from the start.

Endeavour became the first full Federation starship, Enterprise was far too old to keep going and retired.

So, without reading 5 pages worth of posts.....

Even though we've got a shot already of the Franklin, a clear promo shot, that shows it's definatly NOT a NX class...... people are still saying it might be a NX class?? Did I get that straight??

Yes, some people are still deparatly hoping that between Into Darkness and Beyond, they changed the whole universe and this is a real NX Class, ignoring the fact Enterprise was canonised by the second movie.

After entire datasheets of images of the Franklin.
