I suck at my job

I was tricked into having a conversation with my supervisor that made me feel better about the whole situation, but I don't think I actually feel better. Damn him and his fancy words.

So no, no real update right now. I have some other job things going on (a couple job offers and another interview coming up this week) that are going to potentially affect any decisions that I make. I feel like this coming week is going to be dramatic.

So, I put in my two weeks notice today. The way things were going, I just can't see myself being happy here in the future. It's a good company, and they've treated me very well, but it's just not the job for me. All of my coworkers are really sad, and now I feel guilty!

Anywho, I've had two other job offers that would start in a couple weeks, and I have one more interview tomorrow for an awesome job that will likely start sometime next month. I don't know exactly where I'll end up, but I have some options.

One thing that I have learned throughout these interviews is that I am damn near unstoppable in a sweatervest.

Yeah, it all happened very suddenly, but it's definitely a great feeling. One of the jobs is in no way something that could support me, as it's only a 1-2 night per week bartending job, but it's still something that I could do to supplement my income.

The big interview is in a couple hours, though. I'm pretty excited.

So they tried to promote you, and you quit?

Not sure I'd have actually put in notice until one of those other jobs had firmed up, though. not a great time to be winging it...

I don't really count it as a promotion when they don't give you more money. It was more like, "Here's more work to do at exactly the same salary." My salary, btw, is barely enough to survive. The two positions that I was doing by myself are normally done by two separate people.

Two of the jobs are set. I actually started working one of them a few weeks ago, and I'm going in tomorrow to fill out new hire paperwork for the second one. There's just one more that I'm interviewing for today that I would prefer to have over the others.

So I'm not really "winging it." It's more like I'm telling a lot of jobs "yes" without actually planning to work for all of them.

That's, uh, kind of shitty of you.

Seriously...I wonder if there's people out there desperate for work who will miss out on a chance because RojoHen is playing games.

Yeah, no kidding. There's nothing wrong with saying, "I'm evaluating all my options right now so I can't make a firm decision just yet, however I will let you know by [some near future date] whether or not I accept the offer."

Most places don't make you decide on the spot whether you want the job, at least not in my experience. They'll usually give you at least a few days to mull it over.

Firms do this thing all the time, there is nothing wrong with a employee doing the same.
You do what you have to do to get yourself the best job possible.

What, you mean offer a job to multiple people at the same time, even if there's only one opening? Yeah, maybe. You know of any cases where someone accepts that offer and the company still offers the job to someone else, only to say, "Oops, sorry! We didn't actually mean it!"? (If so, I sure as fuck wouldn't want to work for a company like that.)

Oh, good lord.

Job #1: I took it and have been working there for 2 weeks.
Job #2: I took it and will be starting it in 2 weeks.
Job #3: I had my second interview today, and if I get it, I won't start for over a month.

I don't know where I'm going to end up, but I'm not going to tell these places "Let me think about" when I might not have a solid decision for several weeks. If I don't get Job #3 and I waited too long to accept Job #2, I could end up screwing myself over.

And leave it to the TrekBBS to jump down somebody's throat for a bad choice of words. At least we're consistent.

All we have is our words on a message board, and we trust we say what we mean.

I get misinterpreted or misunderstood all the time.

When I do, I usually try to apologize for not explaining myself more eloquently.
