I rmember when Star Trek II wasn't out yet

...and we didn't know it was Khan. I remember thinking--"PLEASE let them do the return of Gary Mitchell! I KNOW he erected a telekinetic barrier at the last moment, was still hurt but healed by taking conscious control of his cells with his powers, even head wounds..." Always seemed to me coming back to the pilot would have been so cool, taking up THAT story after it left off. To begin with, amazing cool mental powers. To end with, wicked cool mental powers.

GM would attempt to create more transespers I'd guess, or maybe after his experience with Dehner, not (but I'd bet he'd chance it). He'd want all kinds of unpleasant revenge. Maybe, surprise, some later evolution of his leeches out all anger or desire to do harm (as in Outer Limits The Sixth Finger). Maybe he knocks off the whole Romulan government (Scanners+ scenes :) ) and takes control of their war apparatus in addition to his own powers. Maybe he and the Tholians find common ground and we meet him on the Tholian border, experimenting with planets. Maybe he likes Genesis and sees amazing possibilities for his powers and a Genesis device acting together, Who knows? Feel free to post script ideas, go nuts.

Ok JJ show me some daring! And look, you don't have to invent anything. All the conceptual heavy lifting is done (by Roddenberry and Peeples).

Ah here's someone else:

Hell, I recall when they said "ST:II will feature the return a 'Khan'' from 'Space Seed" - my thought was 'wow - this is going to suck'. I was happy to have been wrong; and was pleasantly surprised (Even with the canon errors and plot holes you could fly a Starship through that are in that film.) STII:TWoK was proof you could make a great/popular Star trek film that didn't slavishly adhere to established canon; nor be all that 'tight' with regard to plot; as long as the characters were written well, and the overall story was compelling.

  1. Klingon Neutral zone.
  2. "Klingons don't take prisoners".
  3. "There are always possibilities" when what Spock actually said was "alternatives"

1. The geopolitical situation changed in the last fifteen years.

2. Just a humorous line from Kirk.

3. This is very minor. People mix up words all the time.

I mostly remember the ragefests when certain information leaked.*

"Much militaristic, very hate, so hippiemad."
"Meyer said he wasn't a Star Trek fan! Psychotic break initiated!"
"HOW DARE THEY KILL SPOCK!!! I KILL THEM!!!"

*quotes paraphrased but accurate.

Everything about the Klingons in the Kobayashi Maru screams Romulan: Neutral Zone, no prisoners, and Gamma Hydra. Dismiss it if you want to play headcanon, but it's obvious they flipped species without changing the particulars.

You forgot:
Khan:" 200 years ago...I was a prince.."
(Um, yeah, closer to 300, but it is in keeping with the loose canon error in the original 'Space Seed" I suppose.)
or that ALL of Khan's followers are blonde/blue-eyed - and not as multi-ethnic as they appeared in the 'Space Seed' scene where Khan is greeting them as they come out of Cryo.

But still if ANY other modern Star Trek film today made an error like the Chekov/Khan one in STII:TWoK, there would be a group of Star Trek fans screaming it was evidence "those in charge" don't understand/know/care about Star Trek, etc.

There was probably plenty of moaning back then. It was just in xeroxed fanzines because there was no internet.

According to the stardates of "Space Seed" and "Catspaw" Chekov was on the Enterprise when Khan took it over. It's a minor gripe anyway. Space Seed was late in Season 1 and Chekov appeared at the start of Season 2. He could easily have been onboard with Khan.

Listen to the names Khan calls out when speaking to them. That group was supposed to contain Augments from all over the globe (circa 1996.)

Exactly. He calls out a conspicuously diverse set of names "Chang! Fergusson! Etc." (Or something like that.). The idea was clearly supposed to be that they were of mixed nationalities.

KHAN is my favorite Trek movie, but, yeah, turning all the superhumans except Khan into blonde Aryan types was not just a continuity error; it was a failure of imagination.

^ I think the previous posters may be referring to when Khan is trying to raise his people on the intercom, after Kirk orders the gas released. From the same transcript site, the names actually mentioned were:

Space Seed said:
KHAN: Armoury, this is Khan. Report. Rodriguez. Ling. McPherson. Anyone. Report status.

Agreed. The production did similar things in Star Trek III.

Look no one is playing head cannon. This is a common accusation to storytelling when one does not care the direction of said story.

Wikipedia defines plot holes as this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_hole

and

Google:
https://www.google.com/#q=define+plot+hole
More to the point, it states "..things as illogical or impossible events, and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the story line."

I find using Klingon's over another species, the location of events or a main characters dark humor not reaching the bar as to making the story narrative as impossible to follow or accept. This is a creative choice and simply a alternative take in the Trek universe.

That is all.

What were the canon errors in TWOK apart from Chekov and Khan knowing each other?
What about when Khan quotes the Klingon proverb about "Revenge is a dish, best served cold". Where did he hear that? He was hibernating for 2-3 centuries and then he and his group were left on Ceti Alpha V. I guess you could get around it by saying he read it when he was on the Enterprise, or Kirk gave them some stuff to read along with any supplies he might have given them when he stranded them there.
