I really liked Distant Origin

I just watched distant origin for the first time and really liked the idea about their being humanoids evolving on earth. I thought it was a creative idea and overall a great episode.

I'm not a big fan of the episode. The idea of dinosaurs evolving to the point of space travel and leaving no evidence at all seemed a bit far fetched to me. And while the Starship computers are powerful, I don't buy the fact they could say "extrapolate the evolution of a dinosaur to now" and get an exact match for the humanoid dinosaurs. I accept that the computers will be much better, and they'll probably have a bit more info of dinosaurs by then, but that took me right out of the episode.
And while I liked where they tried to go with the story, the allegory was far too blunt, and the outcome was too frustrating for me. I will say that I admire their courage for spending 15 minutes on the dinosaurs before showing Voyager at all. Ballsy move.

I thought the episode was laugh out loud bad. No exaggeration - I nearly herniated myself laughing when they were doing that holodeck scene and I realized where the episode was going.

I loved the ship..IIRC it was a cityship, huge and yet traveled at transwarp.

I guess they didn't worry about turning into lizards.

Well, they already were lizards. :p

I found the premise interesting but the type of dinosaur used was not one of the more intelligent varieties so that kind of diminished the story for me.

I personally think it would have been awesome, and more correct if they had gone with phaser welding velociraptors. First they stun you, then they disembowl you. YMMV.

:guffaw: The fact that they used a dumb dinosaur bothered you? Not the fact that they had space dinosaurs who evolved from Hadrosaurs on Earth and took off in their dino-rocket ship before the extinction event?

The first time I saw that episode, I chanced to see it with a friend who is a young-earth creationist, and I thought, "Hoo, boy..". Nothing came of it, though. Interesting episode, but the appearances of the Voth are a bit too... familiar. They look more like Hirogen than Gorn.

I really enjoyed this episode. If you suspend your disbelief and forget everything you know about dinosaurs, I find it to be one of my favorites. The issues that are brought about are interesting and the acting is pretty good, which is more than I can say for most Voyager episodes.

Granted, it is kind of silly, but it would have been more plausible in my opinion if they had used one of the more intelligent species. Troodon, for example, is believed to have been one of the smartest dinos. Hadrosaurs were basically dumb cows.

There was a TOS novel where the antagonists were, I kid you not, phaser wielding velociraptors. Thats where I got the idea from. I am personally just glad that we got a dinosaurs in space episode.

*Wasn't this one about some dino scientist who is proposing evolution for the first time in their history and he is facing backlash? And he is studying a human skull?
