I Quit

Today, July 23rd, is day 23. Blew my last fag on 6/30/09. I was about a 50 cig a day smoker, but it seems I have now quit.

Lots of stuff I'll get into, but I want to hear from other quitters. How long has it been? Anyone quit for an extended period of time (years) only to go back?

Anyone manage to quit heavy, daily smoking and become a "one cig every now an then" smoker?

Anyone still smoking and want to quit?

Anyone still smoking and not want to quit?

Anyone got a smoke I can bum?

Quit 4 years ago, have had the odd one at social events, and I sometimes smoke while i'm on holiday, but I don't smoke for months on end generally.

I did smoke 20 a day for a good 15 years, but I actually found it relatively easy to quit after the horrendous first 3 days passed and have quite easily smoked socially and not taken it up again since. I understand this is not typical though, and most people feel that the worst point is 3 or 4 weeks in. To me 3 or 4 weeks was into plain sailing territory, perhaps it will be for you.

I recently quit smoking after 30 years of enjoying that nicotiney goodness. Err...badness. Yeah.

And to my complete surprise, I found it easy. No cravings, nothing. I think my lungs have had enough and didn't put up a fight....

I don't smoke either. My brother used to smoke several years ago. He quit when his second kid was born. Before then, he would go outside to light up. What really bothered me was when he would borrow my old car, before he got his, and he would light up in my car. I don't smoke so i found it rather disrespectful when he would smoke in my car.

Now THIS I can relate to. My brother did the same damn thing. Not only that, but when we lived together he used to smoke IN MY BEDROOM.

Used to irritate the shit out of me.
Well, you could always ask him to not do it, you know? If he still did it, it's got nothing to do with being a smoker and all the more with being an arse in general. :D

I've smoked for more then 12 years and, aside from people who complain without merit (such as being outside and complaining that you're smoking 20 meters away from them), I always accede to demands and I'll never, ever smoke in the house (or room) of someone who doesn't smoke. I will, however, ask first, especially if it's raining; some people don't mind much if you stand by the window. But even then, if they indicate they don't want people to smoke in the house, I will not smoke in the house. That's common courtesy.

Indeed. And i would ask my brother not to smoke in my car. He would still do it. The ass.
