I miss Opus.

I have to confess that I've never been able to "get" Opus. It just leaves me baffled, the buildup to the ending even moreso.

Do you need to have followed it from the beginning of Bloom County in order to understand it, or is just a peculiar kind of humor?

(I hope you don't get mad; I loved Calvin and Hobbes!)

... Clavin and Hobbes ...

Yeah. My favorite strip. ;)

I have never read the earlier strips and I found myself always enjoying Opus. I "got" it mostly from it's political cartoon-esque take.

According to Breathed's Wikipedia entry, even though he's mostly recovered from his injuries, he still suffers a great deal of pain. The daily and even weekly strip regimen was just too hard on him to keep at. So instead he plans to write (and presumably illustrate?) a series of books for children.

Perhaps he'll be a new generation's Dr. Seuss?
