I found a wallet with $400 bucks in it.

I had a bad experience after finding a wallet once while I was in college. I found it near the football stadium and checked it (no money or credit cards) and found the chicks driver license number. I called her and told her I found it and she told me someone stole it from her while she was at church two weeks ago. SHe and her husband sounded really greatful on the phone and we agreed to meet at my dorm so I could give it to her.

They showed up and once they saw I was half black, they immediately turned cool toward me. I felt as if they thought I had stolen it and was now returning it. They remained cordial, but I could feel their emotions and I was upset. I gave them the wallet back and they gave me a gift certificate to a local restaurant then they walked out the door.

Looking back, if I had known they were going to act like that I would have thrown her wallet in the trash.

Very admirable NM.:techman:

From the other side, if you were the one who lost the wallet, how would you reward the honest person who handed it in?
I'm thinking at least $50?
I don't know, he never knew who turned it in. I'd just want someone to do the same for me. In fact, they have. I actually left my debit card sticking out of an ATM once, like an idiot. Someone found it and I got it back.

You did the right thing. I found a wallet with $50 once and briefly considered keeping it before turning it in. I'm really glad that I did, because I know it is something that would have bothered me in the long term if I hadn't.

See, that's why it's good to use cash only when absolutely necessary - use a card for everything, if you can.

If you lose your wallet and all it has in it is your credit or debit card, you can call and cancel it - and not be liable for any fraudulent transactions. (Any decent bank will have protections like that. If yours doesn't, get a new bank.) But if you lose cash, you're screwed.

Yeah, having someone do the same for you would be good, but $50 would be even better  and I s'pose it shows you're a better person than I as I would have probably tracked them down and handed them the wallet with a hopeful look on my face !
I did the same at an ATM ~ but left the cash and walked away, the man behind me said 'did you want your money?' I didn't tip him thou!

You did a nice thing, but I hope the counter guy didn't keep it!

Spin the karmic wheel for your prize!

"Evil" Bill would have spent it on a Hooker, ;)

But I would have phoned the wallets owner, and told him I found his wallet

But good on you I hope good karma comes your way.

If you want GREAT karma, decline any reward. Then maybe the bus that would have hit you and killed you dead the next day will only leave you a drooling cripple for the rest of your days. Hey, gotta look at the glass as half full, right?

Well if any reward is offered, donate it to a chairity such as a Childrens Hospital or something?
