I had a bad experience after finding a wallet once while I was in college. I found it near the football stadium and checked it (no money or credit cards) and found the chicks driver license number. I called her and told her I found it and she told me someone stole it from her while she was at church two weeks ago. SHe and her husband sounded really greatful on the phone and we agreed to meet at my dorm so I could give it to her.
They showed up and once they saw I was half black, they immediately turned cool toward me. I felt as if they thought I had stolen it and was now returning it. They remained cordial, but I could feel their emotions and I was upset. I gave them the wallet back and they gave me a gift certificate to a local restaurant then they walked out the door.
Looking back, if I had known they were going to act like that I would have thrown her wallet in the trash.
