I finished Buffy!

As some may be aware, my best friend has been making me watch Buffy and Angel for the last year or so. Well, on Tuesday, we finally finished the 7th season of Buffy (we're slightly out of order, so I haven't finished Angel Season 4 yet, so let's not talk about that here).

I loved it. I think Season 7 is the best I've seen since Season 3, probably due to the nature of the Big Bad. The First Evil just seemed a lot more epic than, um...Warren...or Adam... I actually felt like the world was in danger.

That said, the final episode "Chosen" seemed a bit rushed. I think it would have been a little better if it had been about 20 minutes longer. My two major grievances with the episode are 1) no time to mourn Anya and 2) no real face-to-face battle between Buffy and The First. After the bus escaped and Sunnydale was left a crater, I kept expecting The First to rise up in the form of a giant monster or something, but it didn't happen.

All in all, it was a great show. Loved Angel's cameo in the graveyard. However, due to being a few episodes off from Angel, I thought he seemed a little too happy considering Cordelia is evil and has been trying to kill him in LA . I'll assume that storyline gets resolved pretty soon here.

Oh, and does that medallion thingy that Spike wore originate in Angel? I guess I'll find out in a few episodes, but it seemed really convenient for Angel to just have the perfect weapon to kill The First.

Okay, good times. I really want to go back now and watch at least the first 3 seasons. I loved the return of Faith and thought she was handled well. She wants redemption...she's on her way...but she's still not quite there. She should come back to Angel in Season 5. I would love that.

They were going to show the First in the ending just like they did in the season premiere with all the big bads making an appearance again but they couldn't get the cast back for it.

Even though there were problems in season 7, it was still a awesome show and my favorite series of all time. That being said, I still think Angel season 5 is the best season of JossVerse. They were at the the top of their game and "Not Fade Away" was the perfect finale.

Keep watching Angel, you're going to love it.

Oh, I plan to. My friend keeps taunting me because he knows things that I don't know yet. And he likes to foreshadow bad things, but he also lies to throw me off. He's quite the bastard.

Example: He spent the first 4 seasons of Buffy bitching about how much he hated Joyce and how he wished she would die. He did it anytime the actress's name appeared in the opening credits in a "Fuck, Joyce is in this episode" kind of way. I wanted to smack him when she was killed off.

Yes, it does. Won't say much more than that as to spoil it

I've said before Season 7 seems to be like marmite on here in that you either love it or hate it. I like it a lot, and thought Chosen was breathtaking the first time I saw it. Although I would agree it could have done with been a bit longer.
I just love the bits with the Slayerettes kicking ass, Xander & Dawn in particular. "Call that the Greenhouse Effect. Very dangerous"

And of course Andrew "I have swimmers ear!"

Glad you enjoyed it! Season 7 was my least favorite but I still liked it a lot. I wish Joss could make a Buffy movie (with the original cast of course)

I finished Buffy!
How was she? :p

I'm surprised you liked season seven so much. While it was certainly better than six, I thought there was just too much going on. With all those added characters, the core-four sort of got lost in the shuffle. And they were the heart of the show.

You'd have to get Gellar and Hannigan in the same room first. :vulcan:

While S7 was a vast, vast improvement over the abysmal S6, it didn't blow me away either. Unfortunately the promise of the First didn't pay off as it ended up just being a ghost-Buffy, and the super vamp thingees ended up being completely worthless. Still, the ending arc was nice with Giles and Faith back.

I think it's just one of those snarky fan-started rumors. I've never heard either of the ladies say anything bad about the other.

S7 was fun - not the best of the show, but still a strong way to finish the series. Glad you enjoyed it.

And savor those episodes of Angel. When you watch that finale and realize you're finished with the Buffyverse (until something new is made, anyway) you're going to be really, really sad.

^ You can always read the canon comics afterwards. Buffy Season 8 is only fairly average so far, but Angel: After The Fall is outstanding

Eh, maybe it's because we're watching them so fast. I mean, we watched the last 11 episodes of Buffy in one sitting, so I didn't really feel like the core characters got lost. Xander had some of his finest moments of the entire series.

Like I said, it was a bit rushed, but I still thought it was fantastic. Of course, I pretty much hated Seasons 4 and 6 (especially 6), and I thought Season 5 was only okay.

I keep hearing these allusions to bad blood. Can someone please elaborate?

What I have heard is that Hannigan is angry at Gellar for leaving the show like she did. Instead of coming together as a group and saying "we're going to end this" Gellar announced it in interviews that she was done with it in season 7, effectively canceling the series, and the rest of the cast found out from her interviews.

My understanding was that everybody in the cast was very well-behaved and friendly and down-to-earth... except for Gellar who your typical conceited diva superstar who held herself above the rest of the cast and Whedon.

Which I always thought was bullshit, because it was obvious from the get go Season 7 was gonna be the end. After it left the WB after Season UPN only bought it for two more seasons. (Five plus two equals... seven!)
And from the final scene of the first episode of Season 7 'Lessons' with all the previous Big Bads, its fairly bleeding obvious it was the final season. Which Whedon basically says on the DVD commentary.

So all this "SMG leaving so it's over" I never believed.

As for her being a diva, well I've read she takes acting a bit seriously but that's all. There's an interview with James Marsters on one of the DVDs I think where he says on his first ep he and SMG were talking in between takes and she said something like "I think you're really cool and a great actor but I don't really socalize with people outside of work and keep my proffesional life and personal life seperate"
Which is understandable. Although thinking about it she didn't have that problem with Freddy Prinze Jr :)

There is a reason, apparently, that Gellar never appears on any of the DVD commentary tracks, or any of the "making of" specials or documentaries, while everyone else, even the occasional bit-part player and crew member, does.

Did SMG & FPJr ever work together before they got together? I only ask because I know that choosing a real life couple to play Fred & Daphne was a deliberate choice by the director of Scooby-Doo.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Edit: from what I heard, both Gellar and Hannigan wanted to leave because neither liked the direction their characters took in Season 6. Frankly, Whedon was lucky to make it all the way through the last season -- the show was tanking in the ratings.

And that attitude really showed in S7 - as my sister put it - SMG came across a bitch throughout the season and that wasn't the writting - it was the attitude of the actress in her performance.

 That's hilarious.
