I don't quite get it.

The archived Sombreros and Blue Warp Nacelles are the only reasons to keep this message board alive.

Well, I may or may not get the hang of this board. And there's a lot of rules on here too. It almost seems like the rules want to keep new people from joining.

The rules are there to keep new people from spamming up the forum. It's one of the reason this board has so few problems. If you want to be a member of the community, you actually have to try.

It also prevents spambots and porn from popping up without warning. You want to post a picture of a penis, you gotta earn that shit!

And something else, I don't see any discussions about politics, current events, or anything else like that on here. I see things like what did you eat, what are you wearing, what did you buy? Is that type of stuff not allowed on here?

Some of that pops up in Miscellaneous, but there's a "hidden" forum called "The Neutral Zone" where the rules are a little more loose. You have to adjust your settings to access it. Since topics like politics can often get heated, we put them in their own forum so people who don't want to see them don't have to.

But you can definitely talk about that kind of stuff in Miscellaneous as long as the debate remains civil.

Political topics are discussed here - all the time. Quite loudly and vociferously. The forum is called The Neutral Zone and it's a forum you have to actively go looking for and choose to participate in. You have to adjust your personal account settings to enter the Zone.

If a poster is a newbie they may or may not know it exists when they join the board.

I seem to have found it, I would think that the people who run this would like everyone to know it was there. It would probably help to keep more people who see this place as boring on their first few visits.

Hmm, wait until you've been there. It can be pretty good, the debate is very informed and at times thoughtful, but it can be dark, angry, lkoud and bitter. Much like Game of Thrones, I guess. So you have to be prepared for people to be harsh with you. Say stupid things and you will be called out on it, it's that simple.

Asie from that, have fun and knock yourself out.

Well, it is first and foremost a Star Trek forum. Whether or not you think there are topics to discuss, Star Trek is the main draw. The Neutral Zone exists as a political, hot-topic forum, but it's not the focus of the board.

As others have pointed out however you are free to discuss to Political topics in the Misc. sub-forum, provided it is kept cordial and on topic, i.e debating the different positions and not attacking the poster who holds those positions. Though saying that political threads in the Misc. area only tend to pop up around major events i.e. General Elections.

And whilst you may have a point newbies might not know about TNZ, as you've just demonstrated by engaging with the exisiting community they can find out about it and isn't that part of what a discussion forum is about. And of course if you don't see a topic which intrests you being discussed start a new thread.

I've said some things I didn't think WERE stupid.

I soon found out...

That's what I don't really see the point of, Star Trek has been off the air nearly 10 years now. And the last movie came out last year. It would seem that any discussions on Star Trek have already been done. I was looking through some of the discussions and they all seem to be the same conversations over and over, or "Caption This" type of thing. Unless a new series comes out, as the Q said, it's all been said and done.

You just wait until someone comes along and insists that the new Enterprise is the same size as the old one... (ok, that HAS been done. Again and again and again. And it will again.)

Seriously, with another movie coming in 2016, there's all the fun of that coming up. If you're into reading, there are new novels released every month furthering the TV series' beyond their finales (i.e. DS9's "present" is now almost a decade after the series ended, and a lot has changed). And it can be fun to see everyone's perspectives on the old episodes and movies.

It took you 6 days to find it.

Congratulations, you survived your hazing of eating, drinking, shopping threads and you are now ready for masturbation.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, crappy beer, and TNZ threads.
