TrekInk: Exclusive 5-page Preview of Deep Space Nine Fool’s Gold #1 December 13, 2009 by TrekMovie.com Staff

There hasn’t been a Deep Space Nine series comics for over nine years, but this week IDW changes all that with the first issue of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Fool’s Gold". And today TrekMovie has an exclusive five page preview.

PREVIEW: Deep Space Nine: Fool’s Gold #1
Written by Scott and David Tipton, art by Fabio Mantovani.

Synopsis:

Captain Sisko and the crew of Deep Space Nine make their triumphant return to comics! When the station begins to be overrun by thieves, treasure-seekers, bounty-hunters and other assorted ne’er-do-wells, Major Kira and Constable Odo must find out why. Can they get to the bottom of it before the station’s new visitors bring things to a boiling point?
I was going to post some images from it but instead will provide the link to the original article with those images: here.

I wanted to post this here instead of in the Trek Literature section because this, to me, is special being the very first DS9 comic in a very long time and deserves the DS9 fans special notice. I think I will pick this up as soon as it is on the shelf over where I live.

I hope this is exciting to everyone here because it sure is to me.

UPDATE LINK FIXED

^ GhostFaceSaint, are these images released by IDW, or are these images you scanned yourself. if it is the latter, then please remove them from your post.

Don't worry they are a legal online preview released by IDW, not scanned, you can't get these images anywhere else other than online until Wednesday when the actual comic hits shelves.

cool, thanks. I suspected these are released by IDW, but I need to make sure.

There seems to be an echo in here an echo in here....

I originally posted this in the DS9 forum but when no one looked at it for a number of hours I figured that forum was too quiet for this news to be really appreciated so I reposted the topic and the news here for the lit fans to view.

I'm looking forward to this too. Although since it's pain for me to try to get to the comic shops near me I'm probably going to wait and get it as a TBP.

Did anyone else go to their local comics store looking for DS9 and end up with TNG: Ghosts #2 instead? What happened?

This week I picked up Fool's Gold #1 (all three variants) but they only had the RI "virgin" cover for Alien Spotlight: Cardassians. They didn't get the regular copies... That was weird. (I didn't get Cardassians last week because I'm in "the west," and the west coast shipment was delayed last week.)

No sign of Ghosts #2. I thought that was supposed to ship next week.

I'm definitely looking forward to this.. I love the DS9 Relaunch books, but I'm eager to see some interaction between Miles and Julian again.. I miss that friendship the most since the end of the televised series.. IMO it was one of the most enjoyable relationships of any of the shows.

I picked this up, and I have to admit I wasn't all that thrilled with it. Considering the story is set just after season 3's "The Adversary" and just before season 4's "Way of the Warrior", there were a couple of moments which I thought didn't fit in with where the characters were in the TV show. For example:

You have Jake and Nog running and causing trouble. I remember they did this in seasons 1 and 2, but by now Jake wanted to be a writer and Nog wasn't that far away from entering Starfleet Academy. I thought they'd grown beyond cuasing trouble by now.

Kira seems more agressive than usual. I thought at this stage in the series she was calmer and more comfortable with the Starfleet people, and not getting on O'Brien's back that way she is in this issue.

There were brief momenst then characters like Sisko and the Quark/Odo stuff felt like it belonged in earlier seasons as well.

I found the art is be ok-ish. It could have been better in quite a few places. Especially when drawing Odo and Dax, and when drawing Ops. Kira's uniform looks like it's been painted on, rather than something she is wearing.

Well, I gave it a try, and right now I'm probably not going to be picking up issue 2. But its just what I think of course.

I thought this was a good first issue. This was much better than the ongoing TNG Ghosts storyline.
