Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolverine

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

If "Wolverine 3" is his last... that still doesn't mean he can't be in Apocalypse to some degree, seen as W3 is out after it. Even if it's just a cameo or post-credits scene. At least then he would have been if every X-movie from beginning to (his) end.*

*yes, ignoring Deadpool and Gambit that is

I'm fine with a recast, Hugh has done an awesome job but time stands still for no one.

Hopefully the recast will be in conjunction with a do-over approach to X-Men. Build it up again from zero and really mine the X-Universe properly instead of sticking with this one core group.

There's not going to be a reboot any time soon, now that they've got the current X-Men universe working and already did a soft reboot, so long as the current film series is successful. They're in the process of introducing a new cast, with the younger versions of Jean, Storm, etc.

I wasn't expecting it to happen soon. Wolverine 3 isn't out until 2017, and even then you wouldn't want to re-cast immediately. Presumably they'd let the dust settle a little.

Which is fine if Fox want to keep on making X-Movies set in the past. They may want to get back to the present/"Not Too Distant Future" again.

That's one of the advantages of a property with as many different characters as X-Men, instead of a reboot you can just slowly transition from one group of characters to another.

Does Kevin Conroy count? ;)

Depends on if you count voice acting.

But Jackman stayed in shape, showed up for the roles, and stuck with the franchise through the good and the bad movies. I find this more impressive than doing the voice every few years.

He has actually buffed up extremely for the role.. in X-Men 1 he has a good, fit body.

Wolverine 2? Muscled up as hell (and Jackman himself stated that he finally had the superhero physique he always wanted).

Now acting wise he did an awesome job (even in the godawful X-Men 3 and Wolverine 1 movies) but if judged by the comics he was too tall and "pretty". However the comics, at least the mainstream series, also showed him as an attractive man because he needs to sell comics to everybody.

Only in the smaller runs did we sometimes get the original small, scrawny and ugly pitfighter that he originally was and i highly doubt they'll go that route when they recast the role.

However i hope they do get someone who at least can pull off the visual of being a hardass.. some shaven chested young pretty boy actor who is not able to grow a proper beard will not cut it.

Let's see what happens though it'll be years until that time comes.

I just hope that in one of the upcoming movies with Jackman they bring back Gambit (and hopefully the same actor) as that was the best part of XOW.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

^ Channing Tatum is to play Gambit, replacing Taylor Kitsch, but I'm not sure if he'll be in the Wolverine film or not.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

I will miss him playing Wolverine, but he has had a good run.

A run that only happened because John Woo was incompetent. Talk about comic fans getting a lucky break.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

I doubt they'll be in a hurry to re-cast. They could do a third movie with the young cast without Wolverine and that would be in 4 years time. That's probably the point after which they would decide if they want to do more with the young cast and if so, if they can decide if it's really necessary to have him back. First class did not suffer by his absence (cameo notwithstanding).

It's also possible that Psylocke might be groomed as a replacement for Charles just in case McAvoy doesn't return.

Love that poster and the name has really grown on me since I heard it.

I love how the claws seem more beaten up and less shiny than before, while the scars on his hands suggest a slowing or failing healing factor.

This article reveals some spoilerish but tantalising detail about the film:

http://www.empireonline.com/movies/wolverine/wolverine-solo-movie-logan/

Intriguingly, the script also offered something of a mission statement for the film within the very Shane Black-y stage directions, which seem to set itself apart from the modern superhero template. Here’s what’s written, in case you can’t quite see it in that image:

“Now might be a good time to talk about the ‘fights’ described in the next 100 or so pages. Basically, if you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying CG fuckathon, this ain’t your movie.

In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won’t bounce. They will die.

As for our hero, well, he’s older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain – hence booze as a painkiller.”

I wonder if and how they'll resolve how Logan has adamantium claws after losing them in The Wolverine.
And if they do, this one would have to be set before Days of Future Past...which considering his look here, seems like a weird fit. It's odd to see Logan old with Xavier still alive beside him. It can't be decades in the future or anything, so why is Logan so down and out? It's like at the end of Days where Logan still has his "future" grey hair and everyone else looks young.

Couldn't this be Wolverine in the new timeline though? Which raises some interesting questions, as when Wolverine awoke in the new timeline, he didn't seem to remember any of the 'new' past (Which includes X-men Apocalypse I guess?), just the original timeline and the DOFP future.

I'm thinking maybe it'll just be sort of swept under the rug, kind of like how the Back to the Future sequels kind of ignored that Marty erased his original past and didn't seem to remember it, and just had him carry on (although it's possible he simply just 'assimiliated' the memories later on somehow due to some ripple effect or whatever, but that's fan speculation at most).

I thought Adamantium *couldn't* deteriorate, which was one of the main advantages of it?

The cartoon had his skeleton still existing in the future past his body dying away from it.

I think the implication was he'd been killed/blasted by the Sentinels, and all that was left was his skeleton (ala in the orginal Days of Future Past comic)
