Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolverine

I know, but it was still good as new, after more than a century and being hit by whatever killed him. I'm sure in the film itself, his claws will look the same as usual.

Wolverine's skeleton appears in a lot of "possible future" Marvel stories (The original guardians of the galaxy, Future Imperfect etc.)

There's also a possibility perhaps that something is affecting mutants, perhaps similar to the Legacy Virus from the comics, and this might explain why both Logan looks old and that Professor X (as seen in today's photos) looks noticeably ill. Maybe it's slowing down his healing factor (We do know that the movie version did have his healing factor succesfully tampered with once).

First look at old man Xavier. Much better attempt at making Stewart look older than younger.

I wonder if and how they'll resolve how Logan has adamantium claws after losing them in The Wolverine.

Logan showed up in DOFP with adamantium claws, after The Wolverine. It was not explained how he got them back but the obvious answer is Erik.

And if they do, this one would have to be set before Days of Future Past... which considering his look here, seems like a weird fit. It's odd to see Logan old with Xavier still alive beside him.

Couldn't this be Wolverine in the new timeline though?

Wolverine got adamantium claws in the new timeline according to Apocalypse.

That's a pretty good rundown on the X-Men timeline (though where much of the side information that's not directly nin the movies comes from beats me).

Basically Days of Future Past erased all events of the X-Men movies from after Last Stand to Wolverine 2 (where he lost his Adamantium claws) and proceeded with a different history that's still very similar to actual events, i.e. Wolverine still went through the Weapon X program and got his Adamantium and from then on it is the main movie timeline.

The turning point was 1973. The time travel in DOFP affected all of the pre-existing films with the exception of First Class. This includes the first three films ( for example, we find that Jean and Scott survived in the altered timeline ). We can assume some things that happened in the original timeline of those films likely had parallels in the altered timeline ( Rogue's hair still changed ), but we don't know all the specifics.

Exactly, I love how some people gloat how DOFP "erased" X3 and then just leave it at that, when it obviously changed X1 & 2 as well. Most of the events could still more or less happen, probably like X3, but just differently. Especially Nightcrawler in X2, after how he joins the team like 20 years earlier now in Apocalypse

Well really speaking nothing "erased" X3 as the movie still exists. That said, it's such a kack-handedly told story that I'm glad it's effectively out of continuity. I'm also fine with the events of the first two being massively different as the first movie is decidedly "meh" and while the second has some very nice scenes, the overall narrative doesn't hold up so well under close scrutiny.

Just going by the brief flash forward in DOFP it seems at least some things from the first movie must have still happened. Amnesiac Logan still eventually found his way to Professor X, Rogue had *something* happen to give her hair that white streak again. It could have been under different circumstances or it could all have played out more or less the same.
I mean continuity has never exactly been the X-Men movies' strong suit, no? ;)

Out of the timeline is not out of continuity, in a franchise such as Star Trek or X-Men in which time travel is a thing and timelines can change or be overwritten. McAvoy's Xavier sees Logan killing Jean in Logan's memories during DOFP, so in any continuity which includes DOFP it is also the case that the story of X3 happened in the original instance of the timeline.

I'm perfecting fine thinking of the X-Men movies as only consisting of First Class and Days of Future Past. The rest of those movies were easily forgettable.

This is sad, but he has a had great run as Wolverine. 17 years as the same superhero! I don't see any actor equaling that any time soon.

I can. RDJ is well on the way having played Tony Stark is 7 movies with 2 more in production and another on the horizon (no word on Avengers 4 but I'd say the odds are good). That will be 10 films, same as Jackman, and Downey has said as long as he's enjoying it, he'll keep playing the character.

It's a good look. I wonder how far in the future this is going to be taking place?

Is it strange I'm more excited by the fact James Mangold shot the photo with a Leica than the appearance of Logan himself?
