Hugh Jackman has confirmed that the next Wolverine film will be his last as the character. When asked on the Dr. Oz show, Jackman said that after 17 years as the character it seems like the right time to leave. He says he know what he’s going to do in the third film and it feels like the perfect time to go out.

This is sad, but he has a had great run as Wolverine. 17 years as the same superhero! I don't see any actor equaling that any time soon.

Does Kevin Conroy count? ;)

Depends on if you count voice acting.

But Jackman stayed in shape, showed up for the roles, and stuck with the franchise through the good and the bad movies. I find this more impressive than doing the voice every few years.

Definitely :techman:.

In my mind, he's Wolvie.

When I read the comics now that's whose voice I hear.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

I'm just wondering what kind of story they're going to tell. I actually felt that DOFP wrapped up his character arc in a great way; I almost feel like he should be done.

Unless Wolverine 3 is secretly X-Men 4. ;)

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

I kind of hope they don't recast and use the character in future films. That way they could still have Hugh cameo occasionally, such as being seen teaching at the school. Anything that doesn't entail him staying in 'shirt off' shape for the next ten years...

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

I'd love to see an Old Man Logan movie.

And to play a character who basically doesn't age, and for to still be convincing at that

I'd love to see an Old Man Logan movie.

I can see that happening a few years down the line.

I'll miss him as Wolverine but he's had a good run. I salute his commitment to the role. Thank you Mr. Jackman!

This. Some complain that the movies were too Wolverine-centric but IMO he was the backbone of the franchise. I hope they don't recast the role within this continuity.

No surprise here, but it's been a good run. As others have said, I don't want to see him recast either.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

He'll be recast - only real question is a) who and b) how they make the role their own...

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

Yeah, Wolverine is too popular a character to not have him in the movies.

I just hope it's after the current run of X-Men movies since it's supposed to be one continuity.

Thank you, Hugh Jackman for a great, consistent portrayal as Wolverine. All the best in your future endeavors.

But we've already had a recast Prof X, Magneto, Beast and Moira in the same continuity and will soon have a recast Cyclops, Storm, Jean, Angel and Nightcrawler.

But I'll grant you that with Hugh's Wolverine straddling both time periods, there is something special about his version of the character that way.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

He's a good run, and he will definitely be missed. Although I do question if this will be his last. Hasn't he said he wouldn't be coming back after the last couple movies?

All of those other characters weren't "recast" - they were cast with younger actors as younger versions of the characters. Patrick Stewart is still Xavier, with James McAvoy as his younger self, just like Stewart was still Picard with Tom Hardy as his younger clone. Wolverine, on the other hand, has always looked like Hugh Jackman, including in First Class and DOFP. Casting a younger version of him for the 1980s would look out of place.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

^ Potato, potato. Hell, given how much more buff Jackman is now than he was in 2000, you could say that he hasn't always looked like Hugh Jackman.

I did concede that his having been in the 2 different eras did make him sort of a special case. But the bottom line is that, like any recast, we'll adjust.

Re: Hugh Jackman Confirms That Wolverine 3 Will Be His Last as Wolveri

Hardly a surprise; he couldn't play a character that doesn't age for very long. He did an excellent job in the role. I wasn't much of a Wolverine fan before but Mr. Jackman made me like him.
