How would you change the show?

And Voyager was a show built for conflict. They created a group of disgruntled Federation members turned guerillas just to have that conflict... and then it just fizzled.

Given the factions on Voyager, can you imagine the potential squabblage?

Federation vs. Maquis
Federation vs. Cardassian (Seska)
Maquis vs. Maquis traitor (Tom)
Human (B'Elanna) vs. Klingon (B'Elanna)
Borg vs. Whoever
Hologram vs. People who think he's just a hologram.

I would have tried to make it more akin to Battlestar Galactica: more focus on the need to manage resources and similar. Not sure how to do it, though, considering replicators...

Season 1: It's a problem for them to replicate a quarter-liter cup of joe. Weight, approx. 0.75 kg if you include the mug.
Season 5: Can put together an experimental shuttlecraft weighing 102 metric tons (102,000 kg).

So somehow, the ship's replicator capacity is about 135,000 times greater.

And... they don't expect us to wonder why this is. :shrug:

I would have made Janeway Exec and had the Captain killed in the pilot, rather than the other way around. It would have made her early command decisions more problematic. The breaches all healed too quickly. Starfleet vs. Maquis, Tom vs. everybody, etc. Kazon stuck around too long, didn't see the Viidians enough. Each season should have had a main adversary race. Kazon, Viidians, Borg, Krenim, Vardwarr, etc.

Honestly, I think it would have been interesting to have Tom be the one who creates some unlikely allies because he feels like everyone on the ship is against him. Have him be the connection for traders like Neelix, and doing some of the business on the side until he has to choose between the crew and his own self-interests.

All true, albeit the tip of the iceberg.

Anyone who didn't just happily guzzle the Janeway Cult Leader Koolaid would have been welcome. More of Seska and Jonas would have been a plus.

LMAO, 'cause I am working on an amalgam setting right now (just for poops & giggles), and because I have Empire (SW) space mostly in the Delta Quadrant, Voyager's troubles don't make a lot of sense...

Until i decided just this morning that Janeway was a madwoman, and that entire show happened form her point-of-view. Now I get to rewrite it in its entirety of 'what really happened', and that should be pretty interesting. Now I can say Janeway went nuts and decided to side with the Maquis, and tossed a bunch of her own crew out an airlock (there was no Caretaker), before accidentally driving them all through a wormhole into the Delta Quadrant while fleeing Pikard and others.

Sounds like a lot more fun show to me. :p

Hell, it might even make a good thread, reimagining each episode, with Janeway being insane and the events actually being quite different. She'd need an eyepatch, of course, since she can't grow a goatee (now THAT would be hilarious!), and I'd want to do a 'mirror universe' kind of spin with her.

Kathryn Janeway...
* Died 17 times, and is still with us. Probably because she sent Death back to hell without her.
* Made fear itself crap a brick.
* Ran a crazy koolaid cult where everyone was madly devoted to her.
* Had tough guy Maquis terrorists eating out of her hand.
* Made Borg assimilation as easy to deal with as a case of hiccups.
* Freed multiple people from the Borg.
* Does ballet, plays pool, helped Leonardo da Vinci learn to fly, and can wield a bat'leth with the best of them.
* Had children that were able to fend for themselves in three days.
* Can trigger a dual-activated autodestruct sequence alone.
* Was her own ancestor.
* Had a statue erected in her honor... 312 years before she was even born.
* Made Admiral.
* Did it all while rocking multiple awesome hairstyles, most notably the Bun of Steel.

If she wanted to grow a goatee, it would be no problem. She just doesn't want to. :hugegrin:

If you haven't already, some of SF Debris crazy Janeway rants are similar in idea. He even as the mirror universe version of her have a goatee.

ETA: Someone made a playlist with clips from his show. It gets the gist of it.
Playlist link.

Don't forget, because of "ENDGAME", we learn Janeway can have her cake... AND eat it, too.

Someone said Chuck Norris can unscramble an egg... well, in "Tuvix", we saw Kathryn Janeway (sort of) unbake a cake.

Leave it alone. If you're going to change "Voyager", you might as well change all of the other Trek shows. Or perhaps the franchise's fandom needs to learn to drop its sexism.

Oh, there are changes I'd make in the other shows as well. Most notably Enterprise, which had a decidedly male captain. And if TNG had a "how would you change the show" topic, I'd have a long list of improvements there as well.

Check back through the topic... did anyone even suggest "put a man in the captain's chair" as a change? I seriously doubt it.

I don't think a single person suggested changing Janeway from female to male. Almost every suggestion has been related to character consequences, ship being too pristine, inconsistency with shuttles and torpedoes, etc. The only thing Janeway related I have seen has been make her character consistent, which is something I have said. That's the writers fault, and I attribute it to changing the head writer as often as they did.

No mention of anything sexist by anyone here.

That happened throughout the series, just not in nearly every other episode, like "BattlestarGalactica". And my interest in the latter series had dropped during its third season.

Managing resources was almost entirely seasons 1-2. It was pretty much forgotten once season 3 happened.

Now, I can excuse them not bothering again season 7. I would even call it fine in season 6. But except for the deuterium shortage in "DEMON" at the tail end of season 4, we never really saw this issue again. THAT is unrealistic.

And I'd be happy to look at TNG. And I'd make similar sweeping changes to it that I would to VOY.
* Keep Pulaski.
* Riker departs early season 4. Keep Jonathan Frakes around for guest appearances and directing.
* Data makes CDR in S4, and becomes first officer at some point afterward.
* Better ending for Wesley.
* Dump Worf/Troi.
And that's not getting into the changes to individual episodes!
