How tall are you?

Also, I doubt the embarrassingly short folks have as much motivation to post. :p

I've got no problem proclaiming myself short.

I'm 5'4".

If you'd like me to be embarrassed by that, tough. :p

Yeah, I concur - there's no reason for anyone to be embarrassed by being short or tall or however else they're not physically conforming to 'average.'

Theft, abuse, raping and pillaging --- now those are things to be embarrassed about!

5'5". 5'6" on a good day. :)

All of you complaining about clothes sizes above: don't worry, ready-to-wear fits almost NO-ONE well, of any size or weight. Once you starting noticing the details of how badly most of it all fits you'll want to get everything you own tailored properly anyway. Fat, tall, skinny, short, muscular or not, it all fits like crap.

I'm 4'9", which is really quite tall for a faerie. I'm pretty sure my Grandmother's family had fae blood, so being petite isn't a problem. Except the supermarket keep sticking the beer on high shelves.
Put the beer out of reach? I'd raise hell.

I can barely afford the clothes to begin with --- unfortunately, a tailor is cost prohibitive. That's not to say I haven't considered it. But to be able to afford both the clothes and the tailor, I'd be buying cheap stuff that would fall apart in a season, anyway. :p

Must I be embarrased about those? I am a Viking after all.

According to my grandmother, I'm a descendant of the Nassau vikings. Don't know if this is true, but hey ;)

Could very well be, Vikings did get around quite a bit. Me I'm mostly Swedish, bit of Belgian three generations back and a bit of Finnish about ten generations back.

Definitely true, if I could only afford it!

I can instantly tell the difference even getting one of those people in posh suit shops pick a jacket for me instead of choosing one by label size - the suit I ended up with is my best fitting set of clothing.

What is embarrassing about being short?

I'm 5'2. So is my mother. My dad, both uncles and grandfather are/were all about 5'3". I've never noticed any particular embarrassment about it.

I'm waiting for a national chain of Women's Big & Tall stores. I find it funny there's one for men and not for women, esp. since on average the population is 2 inches taller and 15 lbs heavier than it was 30 years ago. Increased demand, you know. ;)

Goes both ways. All the "vanity sizing" going on in stores is making it completely impossible for me to buy pants, let alone shirts. Some chains I can still get size 0 "short" lengths (Victoria's Secret and Ann Taylor are still ok and Juniors sizes in some places), but for shirts I'm having to resort to kids departments more and more often. I'm not that thin or so small that an XS should fit like a medium did 3 years ago... :klingon:

While I can generally afford a few bucks for hemming, tailoring is completely out of my price range.

Ooooooooooooooooooh, so many tall men. Yummy. :bolian:

I'm right at 5'. :)

If there's a short joke out there, I've heard it.

ETA: I love being short....just for the record.

I wish I were short  Being tall is no fun :p

I like being tall! Sure, I can never put my clothes in the dryer. Sure, I have to buy long, tall pants and extra-large tops, no matter how much weight I've lost.

But damn, I can reach anything, I have nice long legs, and nobody messes with me!

Yep, starting off with the right size makes a huge difference. Lots of people out there are either squeezing into stuff they haven't been able to fit into for years or alternatively, they're positively swimming in baggy items for "comfort" (newsflash - baggy items, esp. baggy tailored items, will feel more uncomfortable than ones that fit properly because of all the fabric rucking & folding and the canvas jabbing).

If you get a knowledgeable alterations tailor to now judge the fit of your suit, they'll probably suggest a few minor cost-effective alterations, and make it look even better!

Sigh... and just as the long legs bit made me want to mess around with you... ;)
