How tall are you?

I think the stat is that people in the US have gotten two inches taller, on average, in the last 30 years. Europe is right now going through a growth spurt, as well.

I think that's right. I have some old almanacs that say its 5'9" for males in the US and the newer ones are 5'11".
I don't doubt it. When I was young, I was considered tall; now the youngsters tower over me....

People getting taller.. it may be genetic selection.

Height is unconsciously associated with wealth, and in some ways is a truth, because of the 'social dominance' effect on others leads to better prospects in work.

Since modern society is driven by wealth, people are more inclined to select taller mates, because they unconsciously associated with financial security and success, so that that genetic feature becomes a sexual selection.

Maybe in the 1800s, physical build for men was more trustworthy predictor of family security?

I too think it's probably a largely environmental factor. It has affected the average extremely fast to be genetically selected.

Yes. Also possible. Growth is under the domain of hormones, with both growth hormone and sex hormones controlling elongation.

In the past 50 years there have been many artificially produced chemicals used in agriculture, packaging, and food preservatives, and artifical colourings, some of which are being discovered as fairly potent hormone disrupting chemicals.

For example, some of these chemicals are xenoestrogenic, which in turn makes them carcinogenic. Some are known to exacerbate ADHD, which may turn out to be the chronic effect of prenatal/postnatal xenoestrogen activity on the brain. So it's almost inevitable that they're going to have some effect on growth too, given that growth is under the control of the same disrupted set of hormones.

Wait a minute... this isn't very festive  :p

^^ I think it's just better nutrition and higher public health standards.

Better nutrition combined with children on vitamens from an early age, stuff like are big contributors.

Also, on a down note, My long running theory that growth hormones used in cattle make it into children's milk and plays a part in it.

R.I.P. Janet van Dyne. :(
You have got to be kidding.

Nope.

A while ago, in Mighty Avengers, Hank gave her a new version of the growth serum that would allow her to grow to giant size or shrink to her Wasp form. Little did we know that Hank wasn't Hank, he was a Skrull. He'd turned Janet in to their last resort, a biological weapon that could turn the tide of battle if necessary.

Flash forward to the final battle of the Skrull invasion in New York. The army of Super Skrulls was surrounded by every hero available and on top of that a large number of supervillains too. They activated Janet and everyone, Skrull and human alike, became violently ill. Thor overcame this and, swearing he would avenge her death, was forced to kill her. The Skrull plan backfired - massively. All it did was enrage the rest of the superheroes. The Skrull Queen Veranke (posing as Spider-Woman) died from a gunshot through the head fired by Norman Osborn seconds afterwards.
